Naranjeros de Hermosillo (36-24) 4, Caneros de Los Mochis (33-27) 1 – Starter Jose Samayoa threw 5 2/3 innings for Hermosillo, allowing one run on six hits, striking out five and walking none, and Willie Calhoun hit an RBI double in the third, his 16th two-bagger of the season, as the Naranjeros kept pace with Nayarit for the lead in the overall standings. Calhoun, Todd Lott, and Cesar Salazar each had two hits for Hermosillo.
Jaguares de Nayarit (36-24) 9, Charros de Jalisco (35-25) 5 – Ricardo Valenzuela went 2-for-4, scored twice, and drove in four runs, hitting a solo homer in the seventh and a three-run homer in the eighth as the Jaguares stopped the Charros’ winning streak at six games. Aaron Zavala hit a solo homer in the second, Jose Felix hit a solo homer in the sixth, and Ciro Norzagaray also hit a two-run shot in the sixth for Nayarit, which won its third straight. Dean Nevarez and Julian Ornelas each hit solo homers for Jalisco.
Tomateros de Culiacan (35-25) 9, Venados de Mazatlan (20-40) 4 – Luis Verdugo capped a five-run third inning with a two-run homer for Culiacan, and the Tomateros added a run in the fifth and two more in the seventh to get past the Venados. Miles Simington had an RBI triple in the fourth for Mazatlan. The Tomateros pitchers allowed Mazatlan just two base runners over the final five innings.
Yaquis de Obregon (34-26) 15, Algodoneros de Guasave (21-39) 2 – Victor Mendoza went 3-for-6, scoring twice and driving in four runs as the Yaquis laid the boots to the Algodoneros. Mendoza had an RBI double in the third that scored Roberto Valenzuela, a two-run triple in the sixth that scored Sebastian Elizalde and Valenzuela, and a solo homer in the top of the ninth for Obregon. Leo Heras hit his league-leading 13th homer, a solo homer in the third for Guasave.
Tucson Baseball Team (20-40) 5, Aguilas de Mexicali (30-30) 1 – Missael Rivera, River Town, and Edgar Lugo each doubled for Tucson as they took the series opener from the Aguilas. Starter Daniel de la Fuente allowed one run on two hits over five innings, walking two and striking out five for the Baseball Team.
