Naranjeros de Hermosillo 2, Venados de Mazatlan 1 (Game 1/7 Innings) – A two-run double by Augustin Murillo in the bottom of the fourth was enough to get the Naranjeros past the Venados in the first game of a Sunday doubleheader. Starter Wilmer Rios threw five innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out two and walking one for Hermosillo.
Naranjeros de Hermosillo 5, Venados de Mazatlan 4 (Game 2/8 Innings) – Daniel Mercado’s pinch hit two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the eighth gave the Naranjeros (5-3) a sweep of the doubleheader. Jordan Diaz went 3-for-3 with a run scored for Hermosillo. Mazatlan fell to 2-6 with the pair of losses, which puts them in 10th place, a game behind Obregon and four games back of first-place Culiacan.
Tomateros de Culiacan 6, Caneros de Los Mochis 1 – Starter Victor Castaneda allowed one run on five hits in eight innings of work, striking out three and walking none, as the Tomateros improved to 6-2 and took first place from the Caneros Sunday. Andres Alvarez went 4-for-5 with a run scored and three RBIs that came on a three-run double in the sixth inning. Los Mochis’ lone run came on a solo homer from Justin Dean in the top of the second.
Yaquis de Obregon 5, Sultanes de Monterrey 4 – Anthony Alford and Anthony Garcia went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI as Obregon (3-5) edged Monterrey (4-4). Alford hit a solo homer to left field to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, and Garcia’s solo homer in the eighth stood as the winning run.
Charros de Jalisco 5, Aguilas de Mexicali 3 – Reynaldo Rodriguez went 4-for-4 with a run scored as the Charros improved to 3-5. Jalisco manufactured five runs in the top of the sixth, all of which came with two outs in the inning, and two of the runs came on a double to left field by Carlos Mendevil.
Algodoneros de Guasave 8, Mayos de Navajoa 4 (Game 1/7 Innings) – Yadir Drake hit a two-run homer in the top of the first, and the Algodoneros added two more in the third, fourth, and fifth to take the first game of the double header from Navajoa.
Mayos de Navajoa 3, Algodoneros de Guasave 1 (Game 2/7 Innings) – Four Navajoa pitchers combined to hold Guasave to just three hits and four walks. Luis Juarez’ RBI single in the first sent Brantley Bell home to give the Mayos a 2-0 lead, with Bell’s run holding up as the game-winner.
