LAMP: Naranjeros Keep Pace With Caneros; Tucson Shuts Out Guasave

Naranjeros de Hermosillo (6-2) 5, Yaquis de Obregon (4-4) 3 – Reivaj Garcia went 2-for-3 with an RBI double that scored Willie Calhoun, and Calhoun scored twice and walked twice as the Naranjeros kept pace with Los Mochis. Juan Carlos Gamboa homered in the third off Hermosillo starter Eduardo Vera to give Obregon a 3-2 lead, but it didn’t hold up. Angel Ramirez doubled home Calhoun in the fourth to tie the game and Jasson Atondo’s bases-loaded walk pushed Garcia across with the go-head run two batters later.

Caneros de Los Mochis (6-2) 8, Venados de Mazatlan (1-7) 2 – Leonys Martin went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer, two runs scored, and four RBIs, and Eric Filia drove in two runs with a single in the fourth as the Caneros breezed by the Venados for the sweep. Andres Alvarez went 3-for-4 for Mazatlan with a RBI double and a run scored.

Aguilas de Mexicali (4-4) 4, Charros de Jalisco (4-4) 2 – Norberto Obeso hit a two-run triple in the third and Cade Gotta went 1-for-3 and scored twice to get Mexicali back to .500.  Luis Ivan Rodriguez allowed three runs on five hits over six innings, striking out four and walking two, and Mateo Gil and Julian Ornelas each went 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Charros.

Jaguares de Nayarit (5-3) 9, Tomateros de Culiacan (4-4) 3 – Jared Wetherbee threw seven innings, allowing eight hits and two walks but just one run and striking out seven as the Jaguares mauled Culiacan. Joel Flores went 2-for-5 with three runs scored and Jacob Rhinesmith tripled Flores home in the second as Nayarit jumped out to a 9-0 lead after just three innings. Former Major League starter Luis Cessa lasted just 1 1/3 for Obregon, allowing seven runs, three of them earned, on seven hits with a walk.

Tucson Baseball Team (4-4) 3, Algodoneros de Guasave (2-6) 0 – Gaige Howard went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored, scoring on a two-run single by Jose Urena in the fourth and a single by Alexis Wilson in the eighth. Raul Carrillo threw four scoreless innings, allowing four hits and walking four, and the Tucson bullpen allowed two hits and two walks over the final four innings to sew up the shutout.
