LAMP: Naranjeros Take Down Caneros; Tomateros Crush Venados In Shutout

Naranjeros de Hermosillo (7-2) 6, Caneros de Los Mochis (6-3) 5 – Harold Ramirez hit a pair of two-run homers as the Naranjeros edged the Caneros to take possession of first place in the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico. Sergio Burruel doubled home another run for Hermosillo in the fifth, and Augustin Murillo hit into a fielder’s choice to score the eventual winning run. Leonys Martin’s third homer of the season in the ninth drew Los Mochis within one, and Asael Sanchez doubled with two outs to put the tying run in scoring position. Rodolfo Amador singled to send pinch runner Diego Soto home, but Hermosillo outfielder Jesus Loya threw to the plate and Burruel applied the tag to get Soto and end the game.

Charros de Jalisco (5-4) 7, Jaguares de Nayarit (5-4) 6 (11 Innings) – Edwin Diaz went 3-for-5 with a two-run double and two homers, including a game-ending two run homer leading off the bottom of the 11th to get the Jagaures past the Charros in Zapopan. Marcos Castañon went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, hitting a two-run double in the first and an RBI single in the top of the seventh for Nayarit.

Yaquis de Obregon (5-4) 5, Tucson Baseball Team (4-5) 1 – Allen Cordoba went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI single in the seventh as Obregon cruised past Tucson. Starter Felipe Gonzalez allowed one run on two hits in five innings of work for Obregon, walking three and striking out five. Gaige Howard’s sixth double of the season scored Jesus Fabela for Tucson’s only run.

Aguilas de Mexicali (5-4) 4, Algodoneros de Guasave (2-7) 0 – Starter Fernando Lozano allowed two hits and two walks in five innings, striking out one, reliever Gabriel Ponce allowed a walk and struck out two in three scoreless innings, and Jose Marquez allowed one hit pitching a scoreless ninth as the Aguilas’ pitcher stifled Guasave. Ren Tachioka gave the Aguilas a 2-o lead with a two-run single in the second, and Yadir Drake singled home an insurance run in the ninth.

Tomateros de Culiacan (5-4) 9, Venados de Mazatlan (1-8) 0 – The Venados can’t wait for the second half of the season to arrive, having fallen to 1-8. Ramon Rios hit a three-run homer for Culican in the fourth inning, Brady Whalen had an RBI double, and Joey Meneses and Ichiro Cano each had an RBI single. Mazatlan managed seven hits and drew two walks, but stranded seven runners and went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
