Tomateros de Culiacan 6, Aguilas de Mexicali 2 – Cristian Santana went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, three RBIs, and hit his league-leading fifth homer, a two-run shot in the second, as Culiacan improved to 18-4. Tomateros starter Aldo Montes threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out four and walking four.
Caneros de Los Mochis 7, Venados de Mazatlan 2 – The Caneros took a commanding lead early, getting three runs in the second and two more in the third and cruising to their 15th win of the year. Ronald Bolanos threw 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits, walking five and striking out five. The Venados stranded 11 runners and went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position, falling to 6-16.
Algodoneros de Guasave 2, Naranjeros de Hermosillo 0 – It’s hard to win when you only muster two hits and draw two walks, as the Naranjeros found out on Wednesday night. Four Guasave relievers held Hermosillo hitless over the final four innings, and Francisco Hernandez’ third-inning solo homer stood as the game-winning run.
Mayos de Navojoa 1, Yaquis de Obregon 0 – Luis Juarez drove in Matt McDermott with a single to center in the top of the eighth for the game’s only run. Six Navojoa pitchers combined to allow three hits and a walk in the game, and the Yaquis reached second base twice, getting doubles from Fernando Flores and Kennys Vargas.
Charros de Jalisco 11, Sultanes de Monterrey 2 – For the second straight game, the Charros scored more than 10 runs against the Sultanes, who fell to 6-16 and are tied for ninth. Leading 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, the Charros scored eight in the frame, capped with a three-run double by Michael Wielansky that was followed by a Jose Aguilar double that scored Wielansky.
