After 67 games, the final day of the regular season has arrived in the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico.
Here are the potential implications of the final regular season games for each team.
Tomateros de Culiacan – A win against Nayarit combined with a loss by Hermosillo gives Culiacan the second-half crown and home field in the first round of the playoffs, likely with the No. 4 seed. Anything less will likely put the Tomateros on the road to start the playoffs.
Jaguares de Nayarit – A win against Culiacan combined with a Hermosillo loss gives the Jaguares the second-half title and the top seed overall. They’ll have the No. 2 or No. 3 seed should they lose to Culiacan Tuesday.
Naranjeros de Hermosillo – A win against Obregon combined with a Culiacan loss ties them for first place, the head-to-head record between the Naranjeros and Tomateros being the tiebreaker. They hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Nayarit, but not over Culiacan, so the Naranjeros must win and need Nayarit to beat Culiacan to win the second half. A second-half title guarantees the Naranjeros the top seed. Second place in the second half would also likely get them the top seed via the tiebreaker, which is overall record.
Charros de Jalisco – A win guarantees Jalisco fourth place in the second half. A loss and a win by Obregon at Hermosillo would tie the two teams at fifth in the second half, but the Charros are locked into the No. 6 seed at this point regardless of where they finish in the second half.
Yaquis de Obregon – A win and a Jalisco loss gets the Yaquis in a tie for fifth place in the second half, and if they have the tiebreaker, it could put them in the mix for the No. 1 seed overall, but they’d also need Hermosillo to lose and quite a bit of luck.
Caneros de Los Mochis – A win and an Obregon loss ties the Caneros for fifth place and could get them the No. 4 seed, but they’re likely the No. 5 seed and will start the playoffs on the road.
Algodoneros de Guasave – A win and a Los Mochis loss puts the Algodoneros in a tie for sixth place, but doesn’t make much of a difference. Guasave will limp into the playoffs as the No. 8 seed.
Aguilas de Mexicali – Regardless of what happens on the final day, the Aguilas will be the No. 7 seed in the playoffs.
Tucson Baseball Team – We’ll see you next season, hopefully at Kino Veteran’s Memorial Stadium. A win could get the Baseball Team into a tie for ninth with Mazatlan in the second half, but the season ends tonight.
Venados de Mazatlan – Ninth place in the first half and ninth place in the second half means Tuesday is the last night of baseball for the Venados.
