Charros de Jalisco (8-4) 7, Venados de Mazatlan (2-10) 4 – Starter Nolan Kingham allowed two hits and two walks over five scoreless innings and Mazatlan got out to a 2-0 lead on an RBI triple by Santiago Gomez and an RBI single from Juan Mora in the second, but the Venados bullpen couldn’t hold off the Jalisco bats. In the top of the sixth, Julian Ornelas’ two-run double tied the game for the Charros, and Jose Aguilar’s sac fly scored Mateo Gil with the go-ahead run. Bligh Madris added a two-run homer as the Charros moved into a tie for first place.
Yaquis de Obregon (8-4) 4, Caneros de Los Mochis (7-5) 0 – Victor Mendoza’s RBI single in the second gave the Yaquis the only run they’d need, and Roberto Valenzuela hit a three-run homer in the third to give Obregon plenty of insurance. Vladimir Gutierrez threw seven scoreless innings for Obregon, allowing two hits and a walk with six strikeouts, striking out the side in the top of the second and retiring eight of the 23 batters he faced with fly balls.
Tomateros de Culiacan (7-5) 6, Naranjeros de Hermosillo (8-4) 0 – Manny Barreda threw seven scoreless innings for Culiacan, allowing three hits, a walk, and striking out four as Culiacan drew closer to to the top of the standings with a shutout of Hermosillo. Jon Singleton, J.P. Martinez, and Ramon Rios all had RBI singles for the Tomateros, and Luis Verdugo and Brady Whalen had RBI doubles.
Jaguares de Nayarit (6-6) 5, Algodoneros de Guasave (2-10) 4 – Carlos Sepulveda went 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs and a run scored as the Jaguares got back to .500. Nayarit used eight relievers over the final three innings, seven of whom threw less than one inning, in a win that took three hours and 47 minutes to complete. Esteban Quiroz went 2-for-3 with a double, and a solo homer, two runs scored, and an RBI for Guasave.
Tucson Baseball Team (5-7) 8, Aguilas de Mexicali (7-5) 1 – Jose Urena, Ramon Mendoza, and Missael Rivera each hit RBI singles in the eighth for Tucson to break open a close game, and Jesus Fabela clubbed a two-run homer in the ninth. Mendoza went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, getting the Baseball Team a 2-0 lead in the fourth with a two-run double. Mexicali starter David Reyes allowed two runs on six hits over seven innings of work, walking one and striking out three, but the Aguilas couldn’t claw out any offense against Tucson starter Daniel De La Fuente, with their lone run coming on a sac fly by Estevan Florial in the sixth.
