LAMP: Three-Way Tie Atop Second Half Standings With Two Games Remaining

Naranjeros de Hermosillo (40-26) 6, Yaquis de Obregon (38-28) 5 – Sacrifice flies by Juan Carlos Gamboa and Taiki Sekine in the ninth gave the Naranjeros the win and got them in a three-way tie for first in the second half. Obregon fell into a tie for fifth with the loss.

Jaguares de Nayarit (40-26) 8, Tomateros de Culiacan (38-28) 5 – In the eighth, Brandon Villareal got Ciro Norzagaray home with a ground out, and Ricardo Valenzuela’s two-run single padded the lead as the Jaguares got their 40th win of the year, moving them into the logjam atop the second half with Culiacan and Hermosillo. Another win by Nayarit clinches the top seed overall for the playoffs, while the Tomateros likely can’t get higher than the No. 3 seed should they win the second half crown.

Charros de Jalisco (37-29) 5, Aguilas de Mexicali (32-34) 2 – Dean Nevarez hit a two-run single in the third that got the winning run home for Jalisco, giving them sole possession of fourth place in the second half. The Charros and Mexicali will both start the playoffs on the road regardless of how the final series turns out.

Caneros de Los Mochis (37-29) 15, Venados de Mazatlan (21-45) 6 – Juan Uriarte went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and Alejandro Urias drove in three runs as the Caneros skinned the Venados on Sunday. Another win likely gets Los Mochis home field advantage in the first round, a sweep would guarantee it.

Algodoneros de Guasave (25-41) 5, Tucson Baseball Team (22-44) 4 – Orlando Pina’s sac fly capped a three-run bottom of the ninth as the Algodoneros kept their playoff hopes alive. Tucson needs to win its two remaining games, and needs Mexicali to win at least one game of their series against Jalisco to get in the playoffs, while the Algodoneros need a win in either game to get to the postseason.
