The Tomateros de Culiacan have added Cuban outfielder Albert Lara for the 2025-26 season.

Lara, 27, plays second base and shortstop and has played four seasons in the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol with the Olmecas de Tabasco and Algodoneros de Unión Laguna.

In 203 LMB games, he batted .314 with 102 runs scored, 13 homer, 90 RBI and an .805 OPS. This year with the Algodoneros de Unión Laguna, he set career highs in runs (38), hits (60), homers (7) and RBIs (32).

Lara is an elite glove man up the middle, and in 75 games as a second baseman, his fielding percentage is .982. He also has a .970 mark in 72 games as a shortstop.

Perhaps a bigger addition, though, is Jon Singleton, who has played 272 games in Major League Baseball with the Houston Astros and Milwaukee Brewers from 2014-25. Though he’s never played a full season in MLB, the lefty batter can play first base and the outfield and has some pop, hitting 29 career homers and driving in 104 runs.

Singleton previously played winter ball in 2013-14, appearing in 25 games with the Cangrejeros de Santurce of the LBPRC, and batted .321 in 46 games with the Diablos Rojos del Mexico of the LMB in 2021.

Former Pirate Billy Cook Signs With Obregon – Billy Cook, an outfielder who made his MLB debut in September 2024 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, has signed with the Yaquis de Obregon for the 2025-26 season. Cook plays both center and right field and hit .248 with 82 hits, 45 runs scored, 46 RBIs, and eight home runs in 94 games with Triple-A Indianapolis this year.

Matt Foster Headed to Hermosillo – Former Chicago White Sox pitcher Matt Foster will be joining the Naranjeros de Hermosillo this winter.

In 114 MLB appearances, all with Chicago, he has a 4.30 ERA over 119 1/3 innings with 117 strikeouts and 44 walks. This year, Foster has played with the Triple-A Reno in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization as well as in LMB with the Algodoneros de Unión Laguna. With Union Laguna, he posted a 0.66 ERA over 13 2/3 innings with 13 strikeouts in 12 appearances.
