LAMP: Tomateros de Culiacan Sweep Hermosillo; Caneros de Los Mochis Take Rubber Game From Obregon

Tomateros de Culiacan (24-20) 13, Naranjeros de Hermosillo (24-20) 2 – Fernando Villegas hit a bases-loaded triple in the bottom of the first to get the Tomateros out to a 3-0 lead, and they never looked back, stomping the Naranjeros de Hermosillo to sweep the series. Villegas went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, Ichiro Cano went 3-for-5, scored twice, and had four RBIs, and Luis Verdugo went 2-for-4 with a three run homer for Hermosillo.

Caneros de Los Mochis (25-19) 6, Yaquis de Obregon (27-17) 4 – Leonys Martin hit and RBI doubles for Obregon and Eric Filia went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI as the Caneros came back from a 3-1 deficit to beat Obregon. Juan Carlos Gamboa hit a three-run homer in the second and Allen Cordoba had an RBI double for Obregon.

Charros de Jalisco (24-20) 4, Venados de Mazatlan (15-29) 1 – Reynaldo Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a two-run homer to the get Charros past the Venados. Starter Luis Ivan Rodriguez threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing seven hits and a walk and striking out two for Jalisco, which improved to 4-5 in the second half.

Algodoneros de Guasave (17-27) 3, Jaguares de Nayarit (26-18) 0 – Niko Vasquez couldn’t handle Phillip Ervin’s grounder to third, with two Guasave runs scoring when he didn’t come up with the ball, giving the Algodoneros a 2-0 lead in the first which they never relinquished. Leo Heras added a solo homer in the seventh. Avery Weems threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings in his first start for Guasave, allowing three hits, one walk, and striking out five.

Aguilas de Mexicali (23-20) 5, Tucson Baseball Team (14-29) 1 (Game 1/Seven Innings) – Estevan Florial hit a two-run double in the first and Alex Mejia had an RBI double in the third as the Aguilas soared over Tucson in the first game of Thursday’s double dip. Tucson’s lone run came on a double steal, with Cade Gotta stealing second and Moises Gutierrez stealing home.

Tucson Baseball Team (14-29) 5, Aguilas de Mexicali (23-20) 4 (Game 2/Seven Innings) – Jesus Fabela went 2-f0r-4 and scored twice as Tucson won for just the second time in the second half. Agustin Ruiz hit a sac fly in the fifth to score Fabela and cut Mexicali’s lead to 4-3, and Missael Rivera followed with a double that scored River Town and Marcos Valenzuela to put the Baseball Team ahead for good.
