LAMP: Tomateros de Culiacan Win 20th, Lead League By Four Games

Tomateros de Culiacan 7, Yaquis de Obregon 1 – Edgar Robles capped a five-run eighth inning with a grand slam as the Tomateros became the first team in the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico to reach 20 wins. Manny Barreda allowed two hits, three walks, and struck out three over seven scoreless innings for Culiacan. Kennys Vargas drove in Obregon’s lone run with a sac fly in the ninth inning.

Caneros de Los Mochis 5, Naranjeros de Hermosillo 3 – Kyle Martin’s third inning grand slam got the Caneros (16-8) past Hermosillo (13-11), while Willie Calhoun’s solo homer in the second accounted for Hermosillo’s only run.

Algodoneros de Guasave 4, Aguilas de Mexicali 0 – Victor Labrada’s two-run homer put the Algodoneros ahead in the second inning, and Francisco Hernandez added insurance for Guasave (12-12) with a two-run single in the seventh inning. Algodoneros starter Taiga Kamichatani struck out eight over six shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk. Jonathan Ornelas had a pair of hits for Mexicali (13-10).

Charros de Jalisco 6, Mayos de Navojoa 2 – A solo homer in the fourth got Reynaldo Rodriguez into a three-way tie for the league lead in homers, and Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with two RBIs as the Charros (11-13) won their fifth straight game. Japhet Amador hit a two-run shot for Jalisco in the eighth, and Jack Mayfield hit a solo homer of his own in the first. Rafael Medrano allowed one hit over 6 2/3 shutout innings, striking out four and walking three.

Venados de Mazatlan 7, Sultanes de Monterrey 2 – With a 7-2 win, the Venados put two games between themselves and last-place Monterrey, which fell to 6-18 with the loss, their fifth straight and eighth in their last 10 games. Phil Irvin had a two-run triple for Mazatlan in the first, and Leo German hit his first homer of the year in the eighth for Mazatlan.

Transactions for November 8 

Mayos de Navojoa – Deactivated IF Brantley Bell, who can be activated November 13, and added LHP Daniel Zazueta to the active roster. Deactivated OF Julián Escobedo, who can be activated November 13, and added RHP Luis Villavicencio to the active roster.

Venados de Mazatlan – Deactivated RHP Víctor Morales, who may be activated November 8, and added RHP Erick Casillas to the active roster. Retroactive to November 2, deactivated RHP Irving Medina, who activated November 8, and added RHP Sammy Tavárez to the active roster.
