LAMP: Willie Calhoun Returns to Naranjeros; Inactive Player Rules Amended For Games In Tucson

Former Major League Willie Calhoun will be returning to the Naranjeros de Hermosillo after having a career year in the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol with the Charros de Jalisco.

Calhoun played 369 Major League Baseball games over seven seasons with the Texas Rangers, San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees, and Los Angeles Angels, but more than half of those seasons were spent toiling in the relative obscurity of Triple-A. After playing 68 games in MLB with the Angels in 2024, he came to Mexico with the Tigres de Quintana Roo for 2025 and joined the Charros de Jalisco late in the season, driving in an astonishing 19 runs in nine regular season games, and is batting .377/.458/.667 with six homers and 17 RBIs in 19 playoff games.

He played his first season of winter ball last year, starting the season with the Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rico’s LBPRC, going 8-for-49 in 15 games before joining Hermosillo, where he had 25 hits and 15 RBIs in 40 games with the Naranjeros.

The Naranjeros open the season at home Oct. 15 against the Tucson Baseball Team before traveling to Tucson for the TBT’s home opener on Oct. 16.

Infielder Jacob Amaya Joins Nayarit – Jacob Amaya, who appeared in 65 MLB games over the past three seasons with the Miami Marlins, Houston Astros, and Chicago White Sox, is headed to the Jaguares de Nayarit this winter.

The El Monte, Calif.-native split 2025 between the White Sox and Triple-A Charlotte, going 7-for-66 in 37 games in the big leagues while batting .250/.352/.420 with nine homers and 28 RBIs for Charlotte.

Amaya is 21-for-142 with two doubles and 13 RBIs in his MLB career. At Triple-A, he’s got a .247/.344/.386 slash line in 346 games with 37 homers and 172 RBIs.

Inactive List Rules Change For Games In Tucson – The board of the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico has changed the rules regarding inactive players for when teams travel to Tucson, Ariz. to face the Tucson Baseball Team.

Teams traveling to Tucson to play road games will be allowed to declare up to two players as inactive, regardless of whether they are Mexican or international, who do not have valid official documentation to enter the United States.

The team must designate the inactive players in advance so that other players can be released. The two players inactivated for the series against Tucson may be reinstated for their next series in Mexico. Such roster moves will be permitted both in the regular season and in the playoffs.
