LAMP: Yaquis de Obregon, Aguilas de Mexicali Will Play Three Games in Tucson This November

When it comes to baseball, the border between the U.S. and Mexico can be permeable – especially for teams in the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico (LAMP).

Already, teams from the LAMP participate in annual Mexican Baseball Fiesta events during the winter league’s preseason, giving fans in Arizona the opportunity to see winter ball up close.

This season, fans will have the chance to see regular season LAMP action when the Yaquis de Obregon and the Aguilas de Mexicali square off at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium in Tucson, Ariz. from November 1-3. The three games that will be played in Tucson at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium will be home games for the Yaquis de Obregon according to the league schedule.

The series will mark the first time the LAMP has held regular season games outside of Mexico, and was organized by the Mexican Baseball Fiesta organization, according to a league press release.

Built in 1998, Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium hosted the Arizona Diamonbacks’ spring training for 12 years and the Chicago White Sox preseason camp for a decade, and was the home ballpark for the Triple-A Tucson Sidewinders and Padres from 1998 through 2013.

The Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico season begins on October 11 and runs through December 30, with 10 teams playing a 68-game schedule. Nine of the league’s 10 teams are located in western Mexico, from Mexicali, Baja California, south to Guadalajara, Jalisco. The Sultanes de Monterrey, located in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, operate the league’s 10th team, and like the Charros de Jalisco, also have a franchise in the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol. The summer and winter league franchises seldom have players common to both rosters.
