LAMP: Yaquis de Obregon Maintain Overall Lead With Win; Charros Top Tomateros With Late Surge

Yaquis de Obregon (33-22) 4, Aguilas de Mexicali (28-27) 3 – Allen Cordoba had two hits and drove in the game-winning run with an RBI single in the top of the ninth as the Yaquis squeezed by the Aguilas on Wednesday night. Obregon starter Orlando Lara went 6 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits, walking one and striking out two. Moises Gutierrez had an RBI single in the fourth and drove in another run with a groundout to third in the eighth.

Jaguares de Nayarit (32-23) 3, Naranjeros de Hermosillo (32-23) 2 – Willie Calhoun went 3-for-4 for Hermosillo, hitting his 10th homer of the winter, a fourth inning solo shot, but it wasn’t enough. Ricardo Valenzuela drove in Brandon Villareal with a single in the sixth to tie the game for Nayarit, then drove Villareal home with the winner with another single in the eighth. Touki Toussaint threw 6 2/3 innings for the Naranjeros, allowing two runs on four hits, walking three and striking out four, while Nayarit’s Alex Delgado allowed two runs on five hits over six innings, walking one and striking out one.

Charros de Jalisco (31-24) 13, Tomateros de Culiacan (32-23) 9 – Julian Ornelas went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, hitting a solo homer in the seventh, Reynaldo Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a solo homer in the fifth, and Cristopher Gastelum hit a solo homer in the fourth for the Charros. Jalisco did the real damage in the eighth, putting up six runs on RBI singles from Bligh Madris, Alejandro Osuna, and Ornelas, and an RBI double from Mateo Gil. J.P. Martinez hit his 11th homer of the winter for Culiacan, and Joey Meneses contributed a two-run homer in the loss.

Algodoneros de Guasave (20-35) 7, Caneros de Los Mochis (30-25) – Leo Heras hit his 10th homer of the year in the fourth, and Emmanuel Avila drove in a pair of runs with a triple in the sixth to get Guasave past Los Mochis. Eric Filia hit his 13th double of the season in the sixth and later scored on Alejandro Urias’ single.

Venados de Mazatlan (19-36) 5, Tucson Baseball Team (18-37) 4 – Keven Lamas hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth to drive in the game-winner for Mazatlan. Alexis Wilson drove in a pair of runs for Tucson with a triple in the second, and Jesus Fabela had a double and a triple for the Baseball Team.

Transactions for Dec. 17

Naranjeros de Hermosillo – Retroactive to Dec. 12, deactivated IF Elvin Carrillo, who may be activated Dec. 18, and IF Reivaj García takes his place on the active roster.

Caneros de Los Mochis – Deactivated RHP Manuel Urías Gastélum, who may be activated Dec. 18, and RHP Yahir Gámez takes his place on the active roster.

Algodoneros de Guasave – Deactivated IF Jorge Flores, who may be activated Dec. 22, and IF Carlos Arellano takes his place on the active roster.

Tomateros de Culiacan – Deactivated RHP Cristhofer Lozoya, who may be activated Dec. 18, and OF Bryan Corral will take his place on the active roster.

Venados de Mazatlan – RHP Jorge Franco has been placed on inactive status. He is eligible to be activated on Dec. 18, and RHP Aaron Shortridge has taken his place on the active roster. RHP Erick Rodríguez has been placed on inactive status. He is eligible to be activated on Dec. 18, and RHP Adolfo Ramírez has taken his place on the active roster.

Jaguares de Nayarit – Deactivated RHP Omar Sainz, who may be activated Dec. 18, and RHP Marco Fregozo takes his place on the active roster.

Charros de Jalisco – Deactivated RHP Axel Muñoz, who may be activated Dec. 18, and RHP Jonathan López takes his place on the active roster.
