Japanese-born pitcher Yuhi Sako is headed south of the border for the winter after pitching in the Atlantic League and Frontier League in 2024.

Sako, 25, has signed with the Yaquis de Obregon in the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico, after splitting 2024 between the New Jersey Jackals of the Frontier League and the High Point Rockers of the Atlantic League. In 16 appearances with the Jackals, Sako posted a 3.40 ERA over 92 2/3 innings with a 1.112 WHIP. He made two starts for High Point, throwing 10 1/3 innings with a 1.74 ERA.
Over the past two winters, Sako became a fan favorite playing for the Canberra Cavalry of the Australian Baseball League, posting a 2.12 ERA over 46 2/3 innings with a 1.071 WHIP. Prior to the 2023-24 season, Sako was eligible for the Nippon Professional Baseball draft but went unselected.
New Mexico State Edges Hermosillo In Both Ends of Weekend Doubleheader – The New Mexico State Aggies edged the Naranjeros de Hermosillo in both games of a doubleheader Saturday.
The Aggies took the first game 13-12, scoring a pair of runs off Naranjeros reliever Augusto Mendieta in the bottom of the seventh to ice the win. Daniel Mercado homered in the second and Sergio Burruel hit a three-run homer in the fifth for Hermosillo.
In the second game, New Mexico State took a 5-1 lead in the second and added another in the third, but the Naranjeros chipped away at the lead, drawing closer in the fifth inning Ronnie Camacho was walked with the bases loaded, allowing Daniel Mercado to score. Later, Jorge Sesma’s two-run single made it 6-4. Camacho scored on a wild pitch to make 6-5 in the seventh, but the Naranjeros’ comeback withered on the vine.
