LAMP: Yaquis de Obregon Strengthen Grip On First; Caneros Squish Tomateros

Yaquis de Obregon (14-6) 2, Charros de Jalisco (12-8) 0 – Veteran starter Orlando Lara allowed five hits, walked one, and struck out four over seven scoreless innings for Obregon, and Efrain Contreras got a four-out save despite putting the tying run in scoring position in the ninth as the Yaquis maintained their grip on first place. A sac fly from Kevin Villavicenio in the fifth scored Santiago Chavez and Riley Unroe’s sac fly in the seventh scored Allen Cordoba. Cordoba went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple for Obregon.

Caneros de Los Mochis (13-7) 3, Tomateros de Culiacan (10-10) 1 – Josh Rehwaldt and Dayson Croes each hit a solo homer for the Caneros, and Rodolfo Amador had an RBI single as the Caneros improved to 13-7. Starter Elian Miranda threw 5 1/3 innings, allowing a run on two hits for Los Mochis, walking two and striking out four. Luis Juarez hit a solo homer for the Tomateros’ lone run.

Aguilas de Mexicali (11-9) 2, Venados de Mazatlan (5-15) 0 – Yadiel Hernandez got Cade Gotta home by hitting into a fielder’s choice in the first, and Yadir Drake’s double in the third got Norberto Obeso home for Mexicali’s second run. Five Aguilas pitchers combined to hold Mazatlan to four hits and two walks, with Gabriel Ponce, Jesus Cruz, and Jake Sanchez not allowing a baserunner over the final 3 2/3 innings.

Algodoneros de Guasave (7-13) 8, Naranjeros de Hermosillo (10-10) 5 – Leo Heras went 2-for-2 with a solo homer, two runs scored and two RBIs, and was one of four players with a multi-hit game for the Algodoneros, who won their second straight game. Wynton Bernard and Carlos Arellano had RBI doubles in the second, and RBI doubles from Jose Alvarez and Esteban Quiroz put Guasave ahead for good. TT Bowens went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for the Naranjeros.

Jaguares de Nayarit (11-9) 4, Tucson Baseball Team (7-13) 2 – Carlos Sepulveda and Jacob Amaya had RBI singles in Nayarit’s win in the series finale, and six Jaguares relievers combined to allow one run on two hits over the final four innings. Jose Urena drove in one of Tucson’s runs with a single in the third, and Aldo Nunez’ sacrifice bunt got Agustin Ruiz home when Nayarit pitcher Carlos Morales threw the pelota away trying to get the out at first.
