Yaquis de Obregon (22-12) 4, Venados de Mazatlan (11-23) 3 – Miles Simington tripled in the bottom of the fifth to score Fabricio Macias and Juan Kirk, and Ramiro Pena’s single scored Simington for a 3-0 Mazatlan lead. But a four-run seventh from Obregon turned the game the Yaquis’ way. Riley Unroe started the Yaquis’ rally with a two-run homer, and Roberto Valenzuela and Victor Mendoza each contributed RBI singles as Obregon claimed the first half title in the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico.
Jaguares de Nayarit (20-14) 2, Caneros de Los Mochis (20-14) 1 – Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the ninth, the Jaguares got an RBI single from Jesse Castillo that scored Jacob Rhinesmith to tie the game, and Brandon Villareal’s double scored Niko Vasquez with the winning run as the Jaguares drew into a tie for second place in the final game of the first half, where they hold the tiebreaker, runs for divided by runs against, over the Caneros and the Naranjeros de Hermosillo, earning nine points towards playoff seeding.
Naranjeros de Hermosillo (20-14) 6, Tucson Baseball Team (12-22) 3 – Willie Calhoun went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI and Angel Ramirez drove in a pair as Hermosillo won to stay in a tie for second place with Los Mochis and Nayarit. Using the runs for divided by runs against tiebreaker, Hermosillo finished third in the first half, earning eight points toward playoff seeding. Tucson stayed a game head of Guasave and Mazatlan, finishing eighth in the first half and getting 4 1/2 points.
Charros de Jalisco (19-15) 5, Algodoneros de Guasave (11-23) 1 – If the waiting is the hardest part, as Tom Petty once sang, the Charros fans were rewarded for waiting, with Benji Gil’s team scoring four in the top of the ninth to get by Guasave. Jared Serna and Bligh Madris each had RBI singles in the ninth for Jalisco, which finished fifth in the first half and earned six points towards playoff seeding.
Aguilas de Mexicali (17-16) 4, Tomateros de Culiacan (17-16) – Philip Evans went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the fourth and an RBI single in the seventh, pushing the Aguilas past the Tomateros and into a tie for sixth that will be settled in the first game of today’s single-admission doubleheader. The winner of that game will finish sixth in the first half of the season and collect 5 1/2 points for the playoffs, while the loser will collect five points.
