Landon Thome Decommits from Tennessee, Commits to Florida State

Landon Thome made a big decision in his college recruitment process on Tuesday, December 2. The 2026 prospect decommitted from Tennessee and chose to commit to Florida State instead.  

He announced this decision on his X account and left a message regarding committing to the Florida State Seminoles.  

“In light of recent coaching changes, while I’m grateful to the coaching staff at the University of Tennessee,” said Thome. “I’m shifting my commitment to play baseball at Florida State University.”  

The 2026 prospect currently plays high school baseball in Illinois for Nazareth Academy.  

Florida State’s 2026 Recruiting Class  

Thome is joining the 2026 Florida State recruiting class that is currently ranked 20th in the country according to Perfect Game.  

Thome is the second-highest ranked prospect in the class behind Kaden Waechter, a native of St. Petersburg, Fla.  

The Seminoles’ 2026 recruiting class currently has ten prospects committed to play in Tallahassee, with one top 100 player.  

In 2025, Florida State brought in the 33rd-ranked recruiting class that contained nine prospects and one top 100 player.  

Major League Baseball Runs in the Thome Family 

Thome’s father is a former Major League Baseball player and hall of famer, Jim Thome.  

Thome played in the MLB from 1991 to 2012. He is a five-time All-Star and was a Silver Slugger in 1996.  

Thome played for the Cleveland Indians from 1991-2002 and won two American League titles in 1995 and 1997.  

When his career was all said and done, Thome had a .276 batting average, 2,328 hits, 612 home runs, and 1,699 RBI.
