The Texas A&M Aggies landed a commitment from left-handed high school pitcher Elijah Williams. He is the number one-ranked southpaw in the state of Oklahoma, according to Perfect Game.

Originally, the Norman, Okla. native was committed to play for the Oklahoma Sooners. In an interview, he explained the reason for the switch.

“During the second or third day of recruitment, I committed to OU [Oklahoma],” Williams said. “I went back and looked at it, and I realized I jumped the gun. Over the next few months, I talked to people about it, and I committed to a situation that I didn’t know too much about. At the end of the day, I decided to do what’s best for me.”

However, Williams was enthusiastic about the idea of playing baseball in College Station. He talked about his visit and how it helped sway his decision.

“College Station is so cool…I went down there the weekend they [Texas A&M] played LSU, and the place was absolutely rocking,” Williams added. “I want to pitch somewhere where my competitiveness is backed up by the fans. I see myself pitching at Blue Bell [Park]. That really sealed it for me.”

The top-ranked Oklahoman pitcher also loved the Aggies’ coaching staff and said that played a factor in his decision. He spoke highly of Texas A&M pitching coach Jason Kelly.

“This guy [Kelly] and I have such a good relationship,” the southpaw told World Baseball Network. “It was a no-doubter once I met him. His goals for me were set out, and they had a plan for me. They saw me pitch and liked what I did.”

Williams left off with a message for Texas A&M fans about who he is as a player and what they can be excited about during his career.

“For A&M fans who don’t really know much about me, I want to make it clear that I am the most competitive person on the field at all times,” the Aggies’ commit stated. “I love pitching so much that I just show what I feel. Pitching has been a part of my whole life, and it is my favorite thing in the world.”

The left-hander from Norman is a part of the 2026 class, meaning he will be set to join Texas A&M for the 2027 season. Until then, keep an eye out on the electric pitcher for a great senior season at Community Christian High School.
