Leon Leones Win Thrilling Game 7 to Claim Nicaragua Professional Baseball League Title

The Leon Leones defeated Estelí Tren del Norte in seven games to win the XX edition of the Nicaragua Professional Baseball League (LBPN). Leones won their sixth pennant. They succeeded Rivas Gigantes.

The series ended with a thriller in front of 5,500 ecstatic fans in Leon. Leones needed 10 innings to win the rubber match.

With the game tied at one, catcher Alberto led off the bottom of the 10th with a walk. He advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Reliever Hector Garcia intentionally walked pinch-hitter Dwight Britton and left for Erasmo Pinales.

The right-hander got the second out on a fly and then walked the bases loaded. He hit shortstop Saul Orozco on a 2-2 count, allowing Mineo to score the league-winning run.

Veteran left-hander Cole Cook pitched two scoreless innings in Game Seven. He was awarded the series MVP honours thanks to a solid start in Game Two and a crucial Game Five win out of the bullpen.

Tren del Norte won the first two games and took a 13-8 lead into the ninth in Game Three. Leones scored six runs in the top of the ninth to earn their first win in the series.

With Tren del Norte leading 3-1, Leones swept the rest of the series and claimed the title.
