MEXICO CITY – On June 28, 1925, the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol played its first season, and the voice of Play Ball was heard at Franco Inglés Park in La Piedad Ahuehuetlan, Mexico City, where Club México defeated Agraria de México 7-5 in 14 innings in front of approximately 1,200 fans.

On June 28, 2025, at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú, the All-Star Game festivities continued with a celebration of the league’s 100th anniversary, following Friday night’s Gala at Expo Santa Fe Mexico and the honoring of the LMB 100th Year Century Team.
2025 LMB Home Run Derby
Art Charles of the Leones de Yucatán won the 2025 LMB Home Run Derby on Saturday night at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú, launching 43 home runs across three rounds and edging David Hensley of Caliente de Durango 15-14 in the final.

Charles tied the all-time first round record with 15 home runs and capped the night with the Derby crown and a 50,000 pesos prize. Hensley set a new second round record with 17 home runs and matched the single-round record set by Marc Flores in 2022. Robinson Canó, the 2011 MLB Home Run Derby champion, hit just one home run in his first-round exit.

LMB 100th Year Century Team
Honored Friday night at the Gala at Expo Santa Fe Mexico:
Catcher: Francisco “Paquín” Estrada – Leads all-time LMB catchers in seasons played (26), games (2,260), pitches (12,538), putouts (10,906), assists (1,459) and double plays (161). Also legendary as a manager, giving Campeche its two titles (1983 and 2004) and León its only championship (1990).
First Base: Héctor Espino – The “Chihuahua Superman” hit 453 home runs over 24 seasons and led the league in home runs four times. Holds records for most batting titles (5) and .300-plus seasons (19).
Second Base: Moi Camacho – Played 21 seasons, batted .291 with 2,110 hits, 185 home runs, and 1,169 RBIs.
Third Base: Nelson Barrera – All-time LMB leader in home runs (455) and RBIs (1,928). Second in hits (2,937).
Shortstop: José Luis Sandoval – All-time shortstop leader in games (2,219), seasons (23), and double plays (1,731).
Outfielders: Matías Carrillo, Andrés Mora, Daniel Fernández – Carrillo hit .336 with 2,531 hits. Mora had 419 home runs. Fernández scored 1,837 runs in 2,285 games.
Designated Hitter: Eduardo Jiménez – Fifth all-time in home runs (351), batted .301 with 1,758 hits and 1,285 RBIs.
LMB Centennial Gala Awards
As part of its 100th anniversary celebration, the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol hosted the Centennial Gala at Expo Santa Fe Mexico to honor the league’s foundational figures, legendary players, and long-serving contributors who helped shape Mexican professional baseball.
Awards were presented across eight categories, highlighting the league’s legacy both on and off the field:
Category 1: Founder of the Mexican Baseball League – Alejandro Aguilar Reyes “Fray Nano,” a pioneering figure in establishing the LMB in 1925 (award received by his grandson Alejandro Lerdo de Tejada)
Category 2: Chronicler of the Century – Pedro “Mago” Septién, remembered for his iconic voice and decades-long storytelling of Mexican baseball (accepted by daughter Olga Septién)
Category 3: Longest-Serving Mascots – Chacho (Tigres de Quintana Roo) and Kike Conejo (Saraperos de Saltillo), each with 30 years of service entertaining fans
Category 4: Administrative Excellence – José Luis Segovia Ponce (35 years of service in the league office) and María del Socorro Morales Martínez (45 years with the Piratas de Campeche)
Category 5: Lifetime Service Behind the Scenes – Florencio Vidal (Field Guardian), Alfonso Rosel Dzib (Official Scorer), Jorge López (Bat Boy), and Gabino García (Clubhouse Manager), representing decades of dedication across four franchises
Category 6: LMB Ambassadors to the World – Karim García and Jorge Cantú, recognized for elevating the league’s profile internationally
Category 7: Distinguished MLB Careers – Vinny Castilla, Fernando Valenzuela, and Beto Ávila, all of whom bridged Mexican baseball and Major League Baseball on the global stage
Category 8: Active Veterans (15+ years in professional baseball) – Honorees included Art Charles, Robinson Canó, Esteban Quiroz, Fernando Salas, and others who continue contributing at a high level deep into their careers
LMB Celebrity All-Star Game Festivities
The LMB Celebrity Softball Game was held Saturday as part of the All-Star Weekend festivities, featuring influencers, musicians, comedians, and content creators from across Mexico’s entertainment world.
Team Kemunito included comedian El Capi Pérez, social media personality Juan Bertheau, musician Carlos Colosio, fashion and brand designer Rodrigo Roi, recording artist Leon Leiden, Bat Boys Baseball creators Liam Holland and Eric Shellhouse, and professional luchador Soberano Jr.
Team Kemalito featured musician Joaquín Medina “Jota Eme,” comedian Iran Mendiola, entrepreneur Luis “Potro” Caballero Dussauge, sports content creator Estafanía Villanueva, ESPN Deportes reporter Rebeca Landa, actor Fernando Bonilla, Los Rookie Leagues creators Enrique Padilla and Alan Nochoa, singer Víctor Zavala, comedian and actor Ricardo Pérez, and comedian Christopher Andrade Almao.
2025 LMB All-Star Game
The All-Star Game will be held Sunday, June 29 at 9 p.m. EDT at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú in Mexico City.
Broadcast on www.lmb.tv and YouTube, it features a 10-inning format—each inning honoring a decade of LMB history.
