The Aguilas Cibaeñas have been the best team in LIDOM all season largely due to their offense, which is the best in the Dominican Republic this winter.
They lead LIDOM with 174 runs scored, 156 RBIs, a .275 batting average, a .366 on-base percentage, and a slugging percentage of .419, and are at the top of LIDOM with 60 doubles, seven triples, and 995 total bases, and have the second-lowest ERA, at 3.94.
Their pitching staff doesn’t rely on one player to carry the load, and they have gotten strong contributions from several different arms. They have had seven arms not surrender a run and the best pitcher on their staff has been Jorge Tavarez, who has thrown 16 2/3 innings with 17 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.08.
The Aguilas Cibaenas have been the most consistent team across the board thus far. Their approach at the plate has helped — they have the fewest strikeouts in the league with 7.03 K’s per game. They don’t rely on home runs and are third in LIDOM with 23, but their ability to hit singles, doubles and triples makes it tough to stop their offensive outbursts.
Three players on the Aguilas Cibaenas are within the top 12 of qualified hitters in OPS for LIDOM this season. Ezequiel Duran leads the team with an OPS of .904 in 79 at-bats. Aderlin Rodriguez leads them with five home runs and 29 hits in 105 at-bats.
They have used this combination of strong hitting and pitching to jump out to a 23-7 record with a 7 1/2 game lead in the LIDOM standings. The Aguilas Cibaeñas lost their last game to the Toros del Este 10-3 on Nov. 30.
The Aguilas Cibaeńas also honored legendary pitcher Julian Tavares by retiring his number 50 on Nov. 29, before their game against the Tigres del Licey at Estadio Cibao in Santiago de los Caballeros.

The biggest moment of the game on Nov. 30 came from Enmanuel Valdez’s pinch-hit game-winning grand slam in the ninth against Leones del Escogido pitcher Jimmy Cordero.

Leones del Escogido Fire Alex Cintron – Another managerial change in Santo Domingo, where the Leones del Escogido are 13-18 and are tied at the bottom of the LIDOM standings. The slow start forced them to fire Alex Cintron and hire Ramon Santiago as their interim manager on Dec. 1. Hatuey Mendoza was also named pitching coach the same day.
Diógenes Almengo has pitched 14 consecutive games without giving up a run as of Dec. 2, which is the highest current streak in LIDOM. Almengo retired one batter and gave up one hit in the Leones del Escogido 6-5 loss on Nov. 30.

Almengo has pitched 8 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts and an ERA of 1.08 this winter for the Leones del Escogido.
Tigres del Licey with Two Impressive Streaks – The back end of the Tigres del Licey bullpen has been stabilized by closing pitcher Jean Carlos Mejia, who has saved six consecutive games. His most recent save came against the Leones del Escogido on Nov. 26 in a 2-0 win. He pitched a scoreless ninth and has converted all six of his save opportunities this season.
Mejia has been lights out with an ERA of 0.57 in 15 2⁄3 innings with 17 strikeouts this winter. Mejia last pitched in MLB with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2023.
Shortstop Cristhian Adames has an 11-game hitting, which is the best active hitting streak in LIDOM. Adames extended his streak to 11 games with two singles in a 4-3 loss to the Gigantes del Cibao on Nov. 30.
The Tigres del Licey are tied for last place in the LIDOM standings at 13-18.
Steve Moyers Helps Gigantes del Cibao win in Debut – A LIDOM veteran switched sides and got to face his former team in the first appearance of his LIDOM season.
Left-handed pitcher Steve Moyers threw three scoreless innings with two hits allowed and two strikeouts for the Gigantes del Cibao in their 4-3 win against the Tigres del Licey. Moyers previously pitched with the Tigres del Licey for the last four seasons. He left after three innings pitched and a 1-0 lead thanks to an RBI single from Deyvison De Los Santos.
Moyers has thrown 121 2/3 innings with 78 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.04 in his LIDOM career.
The Gigantes del Cibao have a record of 13-17 and are in fourth place in the LIDOM standings.
Toros del Este Aaron Sánchez leaves club on a High Note – Former MLB pitcher Aaron Sánchez pitched his last game for the Toros del Este during the regular season. He helped guide them to a 10-3 win against the top LIDOM team, the Aguilas Cibaeñas, on Nov. 30. Sanchez shut down the best offense in LIDOM with seven innings of two-run ball and three strikeouts. He has thrown 46 ⅔ innings with 34 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.55.

Sanchez is building a strong case to win the Pitcher of the Year Award in LIDOM with a league-low ERA of 1.55 and WHIP of 0.95, which is also the lowest among all qualified pitchers. He also leads LIDOM with four wins and has thrown the most innings, with hitters hitting a league low .208 against Sanchez.
That win allowed the Toros del Este to become the second place in LIDOM with a record of 16-15, and they closed the gap to seven games behind the Aguilas Cibaeñas.
