Águilas Cibaeñas (14-3) 7, Leones del Escogido (8-11) 6 – The Águilas Cibaeñas defeated the Leones del Escogido Thursday night in a tightly contested game.

Erik González went 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run for Escogido, while Aderlin Rodríguez added a solo home run and two runs for the AGuilas.

Yamaico Navarro launched a two-run homer to left field in the top of the first, driving in González for a 2-0 Leones lead.

González ripped a line-drive double to left field in the third, sending Héctor Rodríguez home and giving Escogido a 4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Rodríguez crushed a solo home run to left-center field, getting the Aguilas on the board and igniting the crowd. Raynel Delgado followed with a two-run single, cutting the lead to 4-3, and then Ezequiel Durán doubled to left field, driving in Angel Genao and Raynel Delgado to give the Aguilas a 5-4 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Alberto Rodríguez hit a 405-foot solo home run to right field, making it 6-4.

Jeurys Familia earned the save for the Aguilas, throwing the ninth and striking out two.

Gigantes del Cibao (7-10) 3, Toros del Este (9-9) 2 – Aaron Sanchez threw six innings, allowing seven hits and one earned run with three strikeouts, but the Toros del Este couldn’t muster enough offense to get past the Gigantes del Cibao Thursday night.

In the second, Julio Carreras dropped a bunt single in front of first baseman Eloy Jiménez to score Marco Hernández, and Kelvin Gutiérrez later lined a single into center field to put another runner aboard. When Frank Rodriguez hit a hot shot to short, Toros shortstop Denzer Guzman couldn’t handle it, allowing Gutiérrez to score and make it 2-0. With runners at the corners and one out, Leury Garcia grounded out to short, which allowed Julio Carreras to score for a 3-0 Toros lead.

In the third, Mickey Gasper’s line-drive single to right brought home Denzer Guzman to cut the lead to 3-1. In the seventh, Gilberto Celestino followed with a ground-ball single back to pitcher Domingo Gonzalez to drive in Jared Oliva.

The Toros briefly halted the momentum when Leury García was caught stealing second on a throw from catcher Ronaldo Hernández to second baseman Yairo Muñoz, but Hernández went on to power the Gigantes’ offense with five hits, one run and a .625 average.

Behind steady pitching and contributions throughout the lineup, the Gigantes closed out a well-earned win built on execution in key moments.
