LIDOM Cancels Tuesday’s Games In Advance of Tropical Storm Melissa

All three games in LIDOM, the Dominican Republic’s winter professional baseball league, scheduled for Tuesday evening, have been cancelled due to the impending arrival of Tropical Storm Melissa.

The league made the announcement around 3:30 p.m. EDT, stating, ” …Due to adverse weather conditions caused by Tropical Storm Melissa, the entire 2025-26 schedule for Tuesday is suspended. The measure is being taken in response to recommendations from meteorological and civil protection authorities, prioritizing the safety of players, technical staff, and fans.”

At 5 p.m. EDT, the National Hurricane Center reported the storm is moving westward with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. The eye of the storm is currently located off Colombia’s northern coast and moving towards Jamaica and Hispanola, the island on which the Dominican Republic and Haiti sit.

“Melissa is expected to bring heavy rainfall and the risk of significant flash flooding and the danger of landslides to portions of Haiti and the Dominican Republic through the weekend,” the NHC’s update said.

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Jamaica, and a Hurricane Watch is in effect for the southwestern peninsula of Haiti from the border with the Dominican Republic to Port-Au-Prince.

“Melissa will bring heavy rainfall to Haiti and the Dominican Republic, with totals of 5 to 10 inches expected through Friday,” the NHC’s update said. “Areas of significant flash flooding and mudslides are possible.”

Games scheduled for Tuesday included the Leones del Escogido facing the Gigantes del Cibao, the Toros del Este facing the Tigres del Licey, and the Aguilas Cibaeñas facing the Estrellas Orientales. LIDOM will announce the rescheduling date for this matchday’s matches in the near future.
