LIDOM, the highest level of professional baseball in the Dominican Republic, has come very close to an agreement to bring “The Titans of the Caribbean” series to New York City for the second consecutive year.

If everything plays out, the league and teams will be paid over 2 million dollars, according to information by ESPN. Last November, the league held a three-game set between Los Tigres del Licey and Las Águilas Cibaeñasin at Citi Field. These two teams will face off once again, but this time, it will be at Yankee Stadium.

This has been a difficult process for LIDOM to play at an MLB ballpark this season, as negotiations have been going on for a while now and even looked dim at one point. National Baseball Hall of Famer and Dominican legend David Ortiz is co-owner of Latin Events, the third party organization that has been scheduling this series between both leagues. Recently, heads have butted between Latin Events and LIDOM on the rights to organize the event. Luckily for baseball fans, it seems that everything is headed in the right direction.

Last season, Tigres and Aguilas finished 4th and 5th in the LIDOM standings respectively, with Tigres being a .500 ballclub. Tigres do hold the most titles in league history, with 24 championships, so a rich history of Dominican baseball will be put on display in the Bronx.

Through establishing a familiarity in New York, an extremely rich place for Dominican baseball culture, excitement will continue to foster as the league showcases their talent for a second straight year in the prominent baseball city of New York.
