LIDOM: Devin Smeltzer and Johan Rojas Lead Águilas Cibaeñas to Ninth Win

Águilas Cibaeñas (9-1) 5, Gigantes del Cibao (4-6) 2 – Wednesday night saw the Águilas Cibaeñas pick up another victory, this time over the Gigantes del Cibao.

Devin Smeltzer collected four hits for the Aguilas and Johan Rojas scored twice and drew two walks.

Emmanuel Rodriguez launched his third home run of the season, a two-run shot to right-center field that drove in Adael Amador, followed by a sac fly from Aderlin Rodríguez to left that sent Raynel Delgado home to score at the end of the fifth inning.

Rodríguez later sent a towering fly ball to right, where Carlos Jorge made the catch, but it was deep enough for Ezequiel Duran to charge home and score, adding another run in the seventh inning.

In the bottom of the ninth, Deyvison De Los Santos grounded into a force out to second baseman Adael Amador, who flipped to shortstop Angel Genao to retire Jake Holton at second, but Johan Rojas scored on the play, and Genao’s wild throw allowed the inning to continue.

Estrellas Orientales (6-8) 7, Toros del Este (5-7) 4 – The Estrellas Orientales rallied past the Toros del Este 7-4 in an action-packed matchup on Wednesday night.

Miguel Sanó lined a sharp single to left field in the bottom of the first, bringing home Ismael Munguia for the Estrellas.

In the top of the third, Bryan De La Cruz doubled on a sharp ground ball to left fielder Raimel Tapia, driving in Marco Luciano to get the Toros on the board. Later in the inning, the Toros challenged a tag play, and the call on the field was overturned, allowing Ronaldo Hernández to reach on a fielding error by shortstop Rodolfo Castro, while Gilberto Celestino and Bryan De La Cruz both scored.

Raimel Tapia singled on a ground ball to pitcher Emilin Montilla in the bottom of the sixth, driving in Josh Lester to make it 6-3 Estrellas.

Tapia went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs for the Estrellas.

Leones del Escogido (6-5) 5, Tigres del Licey (4-7) 1 – The Leones del Escogido cruised to a 5-1 victory over the Tigres del Licey on Wednesday night, improving their record to 6-5.

Franchy Cordero went 2-for-3, drove in three runs, and scored twice for the Leones.

A wild start to the first inning saw Jorge Mateo triple on a sharp line drive to right fielder Mel Rojas Jr., recording his first triple of the season. Franchy Cordero hit a two-run home run on a line drive to right field, driving in Mateo and giving his team a crucial early lead that energized the crowd and shifted momentum in their favor.

Cordero later doubled on a line drive to left fielder Angel Ortiz, driving in Erik González in the bottom of the third.

Gustavo Nunez hit his first home run of the season on a fly ball to right field in the ninth inning.
