LIDOM: Estrellas Rally Vs. Toros; Aguilas Keep Foot On the Gas

Estrellas Orientales (9-10) 9, Toros del Este (9-8) 5 – Tuesday night’s matchup in La Romana turned into a thrilling battle, with the Estrellas Orientales seizing control late behind a relentless offensive surge. 

Vidal Bruján had two doubles, one RBI, two runs, and three hits for the Estrellas,

Gilberto Celestino and Bryan De La Cruz each collected three hits for the Toros in Tuesday night’s game.  

De La Cruz lined a sharp single to left field to bring home Gilberto Celestino in the first, and Eloy Jiménez followed in the third with a line-drive double to left that scored Jeimer Candelario and extended the Toros’ lead to 2-0. 

In the fifth, Junior Pérez smashed a line-drive double to left field as Josh Lester scored, putting his team on the board and cutting the Toros’ lead to 5-1. Carlos Martinez singled in a run, Euribiel Angeles got  Celestino home with a sac fly, and a bases-loaded walk to Eguy Rosario scored Martinez and cut the Toros’ lead to 5-4.

An inning later, Vidal Bruján doubled on a line drive to left fielder Eloy Jiménez to score Magneuris Sierra, and Raimel Tapia followed with a clutch single to right field that drove in Robinson Canó and Euribiel Angeles to put the Estrellas ahead 8-5. 

The Estrellas finished with nine runs on 10 hits, eight extra-base hits as they improved to 9-10 on the season. 

Águilas Cibaeñas (12-3) 6, Gigantes del Cibao (5-9) 1 – Tuesday night’s game in Santiago showcased the Águilas Cibaeñas’ dominant offense and strong pitching as they controlled the action from start to finish. 

J.C. Escarra had two runs, one hit and two RBIs , while Emmanuel Rodriguez added one run, one hit and one RBI for the Aguilas. 

In the top of the first, Deyvison De Los Santos lined a sharp single to right field, bringing home Jose Siri for a 1-0 Gigantes’ lead. 

In the bottom of the inning, Aderlin Rodríguez hit a sacrifice fly to left fielder Pablo Reyes, allowing Leody Taveras to score to make it 1-1. With the bases loaded and one out, Gigantes catcher Cooper Johnson attempted to pick Ezequiel Duran off at third, but the snap throw went into the outfield, allowing Duran and J.C. Escarra to score and make it 3-1. 

Escarra homered to right-center field to drive in Leody Taveras in the bottom of the fifth, and Emmanuel Rodriguez connected for his fourth of the season to right field in the bottom of the eighth. 

Leones del Escogido (7-9) 5, Tigres del Licey (7-10) 0 – Tuesday night’s matchup turned into a complete wipeout, with the Leones controlling the game from start to finish. 

Escogido starter Lael Lockhart allowed five hits over five scoreless innings, walking none and striking out three. 

In the top of the second, Pedro Severino singled to center field, driving in Junior Lake for a 1-0 Leones lead. Three innings later, Jonathan Guzman drove in Severino with a single to left to make it 2-0. An RBI single in the sixth by Yamaico Navarro got Socrates Brito home to make it 3-0. 

In the top of the seventh, Alexander Canario homered to left-center field, his first of the season, giving the Leones a 4-0 lead.
