Toros del Este (25-17) 2, Tigres del Licey (19-23) 1 – On Monday night, the Toros del Este relied on steady execution to outlast the Tigres del Licey in a hard-fought matchup.
Eloy Jiménez went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored, while Aaron Leasher turned in 4 2/3 strong innings, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out five.
Eloy Jiménez launched his fifth home run of the season, sending a towering fly ball over the left-field wall in the bottom of the second.
In the top of the fourth, Michael De La Cruz drilled a line-drive single to left, bringing Francisco Mejía home for the score.
In the bottom of the fifth, Rafael Lantigua bounced into a sharp, inning-ending double play, as Sergio Alcántara started it at short and fired to Gustavo Núñez at second before the relay reached Cristhian Adames at first, cutting down both Jeimer Candelario and Lantigua in one swift sequence.
Lantigua punched a ground-ball single to second, moving Rudy Martin to third and Candelario into a strong scoring position at second.
The decisive run came in the bottom of the ninth, when Yairo Muñoz lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Martin to tag and score the winning run.
