MLB free agent Robinson Cano went 2-for-2 with a double and a walk and Lewin Diaz homered in the second inning as Estrellas Orientales edged Gigantes de Cibao 4-2 in the round-robin stage of the LIDOM playoffs.

Estrellas outfielder Junior Lake scooted around from second to score the winning run in the bottom of the eighth on a pair of throwing errors Gigantes pitcher Luis Perdomo’s pickoff attempt found its way to the outfield, and a throw by right fielder Yamaico Navarro went into the third base dugout.

Jeurys Familia came in to pitch the bottom of the seventh for Gigantes, retiring the side. Familia is an MLB free agent after splitting 2022 between Boston and Philadelphia, appearing in 48 games and posting a 6.09 ERA.

The win gave Estrellas a 3-1 record in the round robin stage, while Gigantes fell to 1-3, placing them in the LIDOM cellar, a game behind Tigres de Licey.

Tigres de Licey 6, Águilas Cibaeñas 3: Tigres snagged three runs in the top of the 11th to get the win against Águilas to push their record in the round robin to 2-2.

LIDOM is on a Christmas break until December 28.
