LIDOM: Tigres del Licey Hand Águilas Cibaeñas Rare Defeat Behind Rojas Jr.’s Grand Slam

Tigres del Licey (5-7) 7, Águilas Cibaeñas (9-2) 1 – The Tigres del Licey delivered a commanding performance Thursday night, overpowering the league-leading Águilas Cibaeñas in a decisive 7-1 victory.

Mel Rojas Jr. drove in four runs with a grand slam and starter Cameron Gann allowed just one hit in 3 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking two before turning the ball over to the bullpen.

In the first, with Griffin Conine at bat, Gustavo Nunez was awarded home plate when Aguilas starter Randy Wynne was called for a balk.

In the bottom of the fifth, Rojas launched a grand slam to left-center field, driving in Víctor Labrada, Domingo Leyba and Gustavo Núñez to give the Tigres a 6-1 lead.

Domingo Leyba followed with a sharp grounder into right field, bringing the crowd to its feet as Cristhian Adames charged home from third to score.

In the top of the ninth, José Rodríguez lined a triple to center field which Labrada couldn’t cut off in time.
