LIDOM: Toros and Leones Swap Ramirez, Guerrero Jr.

Jose Ramirez and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. were swapped in a trade on Saturday in Liga de Béisbol Profesional de la República Dominicana.

Guerrero Jr. will play for Toros del Este if the Toronto Blue Jays let him suit up for winter ball this offseason, and Ramirez will play for Leones del Escogido if the Cleveland Guardians allow him to play this winter.

Ramirez was selected to his fifth all-star game in his career this season playing in 150 games with 664 plate appearances batting .278 recording 163 hits, 35 doubles, five triples, 24 home runs, 80 RBI, swiping 27 stolen bases, and 70 walks including a .829 OPS. 

Ramirez last played in LIDOM with Toros del Este during the 2015-16 season, suiting up for 13 games with 55 plate appearances batting .300 recording 15 hits, one double, two triples, three RBI, five stolen bases, five walks, and four strikeouts. 

Ramirez, in his four-year career with Toros del Este, has played in 107 games, batting .285 with 478 plate appearances and 121 hits, 20 doubles, four triples, three home runs, 49 RBI, 21 stolen bases, 39 walks, and 61 strikeouts alongside a .719 OPS.  

This season, Guerrero Jr. was selected to his third All-Star Game and also won the 2023 Home Run Derby, becoming the seventh player from the Dominican Republic to win the event. 

Guerrero Jr. has played in 150 games this season, batting .265 over 655 plate appearances with 153 hits, 28 doubles, 24 home runs, 92 RBI, 64 walks, and 93 strikeouts alongside a .783 OPS. 

Guerrero Jr. has played in two seasons with Toros del Este, in 2017-18 and 2020-21, appearing in played in 36 games with 140 plate appearances and batting .256 with 33 hits, six doubles, two triples, two home runs, 17 RBI, nine walks, and 19 strikeouts including a .687 OPS. 

The 2023-24 LIDOM regular season will start on October 19, with three games slated for opening day. The Santo Domingo series between the Leones del Escogido and the Tigres del Licey will be at Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal at 7:15 p.m. EDT. The Gigantes del Cibao will travel to Santiago to play the Aguilas Cibaenas at 7:30 p.m. EDT at Estadio Cibao. The Toros del Este will play the Estrellas Orientales a 7:30 p.m. EDT at Estadio Tetelo Vargas.

All LIDOM regular season games will be streamed on MLB.tv until the final out of the best-of-seven championship series in January, shortly before the 2024 Caribbean Series in Miami at loanDepot Park from February 1-9.
