LIDOM: Toros del Este Back Above .500 With Win Over Leones del Escogido

Toros del Este (14-13) 4, Leones del Escogido (11-16) 1 – Rafael Lantigua finished 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a stolen base as the Toros improved to a game over .500. 

Gio Urshela ripped a line-drive single to right field, driving in Héctor Rodríguez in the bottom of the first to give Escogido a 1-0 lead. 

In the top of the second, Yairo Muñoz sent a hard grounder into left for his 10th double of the season, scoring Eloy Jiménez to tie the game for the Toros. Tres Barrera followed by grounding a single through the right side, bringing home Muñoz in to give the Toros the lead. Lantigua then hit a ground-ball single off pitcher Norge Ruiz, plating Gustavo Campero to make it 3-1. 

In the top of the fourth, Bryan De La Cruz ripped a line-drive double to left, driving in Gilberto Celestino. 

Erik González went 3-for-3 with a double and a walk for the Leones in the loss.

Estrellas Orientales (13-16) 4, Gigantes del Cibao (11-15) 2  – On Tuesday night, the Estrellas Orientales seized control early and never let up, getting clutch hitting and sharp defense to outmaneuver the Gigantes del Cibao. 

Ángel Martínez went 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI, a run and a stolen base, and starter Esmil Rogers worked five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs while striking out five. 

Ángel Martínez dropped a single into right field, scoring Wilin Rosario in the bottom of the second. Vidal Brujan followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Ernesto Martinez Jr. for a 2-0 lead. Rodolfo Duran then stole home to give the Estrellas a 3-0 lead. 

In the bottom of the seventh, Vidal Bruján ripped a line-drive single to center field, bringing home Ángel Martínez to make it 4-0. 

Deyvison De Los Santos went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and a run for the Gigantes in the loss, hitting a solo homer in the eighth. The Estrellas challenged the home-run call, arguing that the ball hit the top of the wall and remained in play, but the homer was upheld for De Los Santos’ third of the year, making it 4-2.

Tigres del Licey (11-16) 8, Águilas Cibaeñas (21-5) 7 – On Tuesday night, the Tigres del Licey rallied against the Águilas Cibaeñas to knock off the first-place Aguilas. 

Hayden Senger went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and a run scored for Licey, which improved to 11-6 with the win.

In the top of the first, Adames launched a solo home run to left-center field, his first of the season, giving Licey a 1-0 lead. 

Webster Rivas singled on a line drive to center field, driving in Albert Fabián to tie the game in the bottom of the second, and Ángel Genao followed with a line-drive single to right field, scoring Adael Amador and Rivas for a 3-1 Aguilas lead. 

Aderlin Rodríguez hit his fifth home run of the season with a fly ball to left in the bottom of the fourth, and Rivas doubled to left field later in the inning, driving in Fabián and Amador and giving the Aguilas a 6-1 lead.

Licey jammed their foot in the door, getting a sac fly from Luis Campusano in the fifth, and thenSenger homered to left-center field for his first of the season in the sixth to cut the lead to 6-3. 

In the top of the eighth, Esteury Ruiz got Mel Rojas Jr. home by grounding into a fielder’s choice. Cal Stevenson lined a single to right field, driving in David Hensley and Ruiz to tie the game.

Hayden Senger’s two-run double in the top of the ninth scored Emilio Bonifacio and Michael De Leon to give the Tigres an 8-6 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth, Ezequiel Durán’s fourth double of the season scored Ángel Genao, but it was too little, too late.

Aderlin Rodríguez finished 3-for-4 with a home run, an RBI and a run and Cristhian Adames went 1-for-2 with a home run, three walks, an RBI and a run for the Aguilas in the loss.
