LIDOM: Toros del Este Explode For 12 Runs, Overpower Leones del Escogido

Toros del Este (9-7) 12, Leones del Escogido (6-9) 4 – Monday night’s matchup turned into an offensive showcase as the Toros del Este unleashed a relentless 12-run attack to overpower the Leones del Escogido.

Ronaldo Hernández had four RBIs and scored twice, and Jeimer Candelario went 2-for-5 and had two RBIs for the toros. 

In the top of the first, Eloy Jimenez singled home Gilberto Celestino, and then Yairo Muñoz roped a line drive to left field for his fourth double of the season, driving in Jiménez.

An inning later, Jimenez singled home Ronaldo Hernandez and Celestino to cap a four-run inning and give the Toros a 6-0 lead.

Héctor Rodríguez hit his first home run of the season, sending a towering fly ball over the right-field wall to get the Leones on the board in the bottom of the third.

In the top of the fourth, Jeimer Candelario drilled a sharp line drive to right field for his first double of the season, driving in Bryan De La Cruz and Mickey Gasper while moving Yairo Muñoz to third. Two batters later, Ronaldo Hernández launched his first grand slam of the season to left-center field, clearing the bases as Yairo Muñoz, Jeimer Candelario and Jared Oliva all scored in the top of the fourth to make it 12-1.

Estrellas Orientales (8-10) 4, Tigres del Licey (7-9) 0  – Monday night’s showdown saw the Estrellas Orientales break through with timely hitting, sharp defense and steady pitching to secure a 4-0 victory over the Tigres del Licey.

Oscar De La Cruz struck out six over 4 1/3 scoreless innings for the Estrellas.

In the bottom of the third, Robinson Canó lined a single to left, driving in Magneuris Sierra while advancing Carlos Martínez to third. Euribiel Angeles then grounded into a double play, allowing Martínez to score.

In the bottom of the fourth, Sierra ripped a grounder up the middle for an RBI single to score Tapia, and in the fifth, Josh Lester crushed a line drive into right field for an electrifying triple that drove in Angeles to extend the lead.
