This is the third straight year the Águilas Cibaeñas will play at Citi Field in November, but this is the first time it will actually count in the LIDOM standings. The previous two editions featured the Tigres del Licey, instead of the Gigantes del Cibao, and were exhibition games played during a break in the team’s LIDOM schedule.
The Águilas Cibaeñas have won 22 LIDOM Championships and six Caribbean Series since the league was founded in 1951. The Gigantes del Cibao were founded in 1996 and have won two LIDOM Championships. They made the Caribbean Series once in 2022 and were the runners-up to the Caimanes de Barranquilla in the Liga Colombiana de Béisbol Profesional.
The Gigantes del Cibao and the Águilas Cibaeñas also compete for the Cibao Regional Cup, which is awarded to the winner of the season series each season. The games at Citi Field will also count towards the Cibao Regional Cup.
In 2023, the Titanes del Caribe series was played for the first time as a three-game set at Citi Field, and Águilas Cibaeñas swept the Tigres del Licey.
In 2024, only one game was played at Citi Field, and the Águilas Cibaeñas won 3-2 against the Tigres del Licey on a walk-off single from infielder Bladimir Restituyo.
