Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Bravos de Leon Take Over First Place In Zona Sur, Hand Leones de Yucatan Ninth Straight Loss

Pericos de Puebla (12-8) 6, Diablos Rojos del Mexico (12-8) 1 – A two-run homer by Michael De La Cruz capped a five-run eighth inning that got the Pericos the series win against the Diablos, spoiling five scoreless innings by Reds starter James Kaprelian. Luis Castro touched off the rally with a hot shot to third that Diablos’ third baseman Maikel Franco threw away, allowing a pair of runs to score, and Leyva followed with an RBI double. Pericos starter Vladimir Gutierrez struck out eight in seven innings of work, allowing one run on six hits.

Tigres de Quintana Roo (9-11) 8, Olmecas de Tabasco (9-11) 7 (14 Innings) – Tabasco scored three runs in the top of the eighth on Marco Hernandez’ bases-loaded single to tie the game at seven apiece, but six innings later, Carlos Castro sent the Quintana Roo fans home happy with a solo homer in the bottom of the 14th to give the Tigres the win and snap the Olmecas’ winning streak.

Piratas de Campeche (9-11) 8, Guerreros de Oaxaca (11-9) 5 – Andrew Young went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and Connor Hollis had three singles as the Piratas beat Campeche to set up a rubber game on Sunday at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helu in Mexico City. Starter Bobby Milacki allowed three runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings for Campeche. Mel Rojas Jr. hit a two-run homer, his third dinger of the year, for Oaxaca.

Toros de Tijuana (12-6) 3, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (9-10) 1 (Game 1/Eight Innings) – Former New York Met Wilmer Flores drove in his former Queens teammate Justin Turner with an eighth-inning homer to get the Toros past the Tecos in the first game of a doubleheader necessitated by Tijuana’s travel woes on Friday. Jonathan Guzman drove in Tijuana’s first run with a solo homer in the fifth that tied the game. Francisco Cordoba drove in the Tecos’ lone run with a sac fly in the fourth.

Toros de Tijuana (13-6) 7, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (9-10) 1 – Junior Lake went 2-for-4, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs and Hernan Perez went 3-for-4 with two RBIs as the Toros swept the doubleheader from the Tecos in Texas. Zoilo Almonte’s solo homer accounted for the Dos Laredos’ lone run. Five Tijuana pitchers combined to allow just two hits and four walks over seven innings, though starter Adonis Medina was credited with an appearance despite not throwing a pitch.

Rieleros de Aguascalientes (13-7) 9, Charros de Jalisco (10-10) 3 – Angel Reyes went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs, and Jose Rondon went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, two runs scored, and three RBIs as Aguascalientes won its fifth straight game. Starter Greg Duncan went 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out for for the Rieleros in the win. Kyle Garlick drove in two runs for Jalisco with a single in the seventh.

Conspiradores de Queretaro (10-10) 10, El Aguila de Veracruz (9-11) 5 – Luis Romero threw 6 2/3 innings for Queretaro, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk, striking out four, and Henry Urrutia went 2-for-4 with six RBIs, driving in a run with a sac fly in the first, two more with a double in the third, and three with a homer in the seventh. Jake Cave hit a solo homer for El Aguila.

Bravos de Leon (13-7) 6, Leones de Yucatan (7-13) 2 – The Bravos took control of first place in the Zona Sur and handed the Leones their ninth consecutive loss, sending Yucatan into the cellar alone on Saturday night. Jimmy Kerrigan went 3-for-5 with a solo homer and Sandber Pimentel went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, and Gaige Howard added a pair of RBIs.

Saraperos de Saltillo (5-14) 13, Dorados de Chihuahua (7-13) 4 – Oscar Colas hit a pair of two-run homers, Christian Villanueva hit a three-run homer, and Drew Stankiewicz hit a solo homer as the Saraperos won for just the fifth time this season. Starter Zack mort struck out 11 Dorados over six innings, allowing two runs on three hits for the Saraperos.

Algodoneros de Union Laguna (8-12) 5, Caliente de Durango (10-10) 4 – Emmanuel Rivera went 5-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, Yusniel Diaz drove in a pair of runs for Union Laguna with a double, and Albert Lara had a pair of singles as the Algodoneros cooled off Durango.

Acereros de Monclova (11-9) 15, Sultanes de Monterrey (13-7) 3 – Ramon Hernandez went 2-for-3 and drove in four runs, Jacob Rhinesmith went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Alan Trejo hit a three-run homer as Monclova won its fourth straight. Starter Jake McSteen allowed two runs on six hits over six innings, walking one and striking out seven for the Acereros.
