Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Brinkley Fired By Pericos de Puebla; Bravos de Leon Massacre Piratas 21-1

Pericos de Puebla Fire Darryl Brinkley, Beat Tigres de Quintana Roo 5-2 – Darryl Brinkley became the third LMB manager to hit the unemployment line when the Pericos parted ways with him Saturday morning despite the club being 17-13 and in second place in the Zona Sur. They then took the series opener against Quintana Roo in the evening, with Lorenzo Cedrola and Luis Castro scoring twice each. Castro hit a solo homer for the Pericos, who improved to 18-13, while Quintana Roo lost its eighth straight game and fell to 11-20 on the year.

Diablos Rojos del Mexico (18-13) 6, El Aguila de Veracruz (15-16) 4 (10 Innings) – Julian Ornelas hit a two-run homer, his second of the night, in the top of the 10th to put the Diablos ahead for good, going 3-for-5 with a solo homer in the sixth, scoring twice and driving in three. Franklin Barreto hit a three-run homer for the Diablos, and Tomohiro Anraku went two innings in relief to earn a win.

Conspiradores de Queretaro (14-16) at Guerreros de Oaxaca (20-10) – Postponed due to rain and rescheduled as part of a single-admission double header on Saturday.

Olmecas de Tabasco (18-13) 6, Leones de Yucatan (10-21) 2 – Seth Beer hit a three-run homer in the seventh as the Olmecas scored four in the inning on their way to tripling up the Leones. He also scored twice and went 2-for-4, while starter Tyler Danish allowed two runs on seven hits over seven innings of work for Tabasco. Henry Ramos hit a solo homer for Yucatan.

Bravos de Leon (18-13) 21, Piratas de Campeche (12-19) 1 – The Bravos scored 21 runs, but only three of them came via the long ball, with Roberto Castro hitting a three-run homer in the fifth. Leon scored five in the second, six in the third, seven in the fourth, and three in the fifth, recording 20 total hits in the game. Marco Chicuate led the Bravos with four RBIs, while Gabriel Cancel, Gaige Howard, and Castro each had three.

Rieleros de Aguascalientes (16-15) 8, Saraperos de Saltillo (10-20) 6 – Jose Rondon had a pair of two-run singles as Aguascalientes improved to a game above .500. Maikel Serrano scored four times for the Rieleros and Matt McDermott scored twice.

Sultanes de Monterrey (20-11) 6, Caliente de Durango (15-16) 0 – Victor Mendoza hit a three-run homer in the first, Socrates Brito hit a solo homer in the sixth, and Wilson Garcia drove in a run with a sac fly as the Sultanes easily got past Durango. Nolan Kingham threw six scoreless innings, walking one and striking out nine for Monterrey.

Charros de Jalisco (18-13) 5, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (16-15) 4 (10 Innings) – A wild pitch by Rio Gomez in the 10th allowed Jose Aguilar to scoot home with the winning run for the Tecos in the 10th. Jared Walsh went 4-for-6 with a run scored, an RBI, and a solo homer for Jalisco.

Acereros de Monclova (16-15) 5, Dorados de Chihuahua (10-21) 3 – Balbino Fuenmayor had a pair of RBI singles for the Acereros and starter AJ Candelario threw five innings, allowing one run on seven hits and a walk, striking out two. Coco Montes went 4-for-5 and scored twice for Chihuahua.

Toros de Tijuana (21-9) 2, Algodoneros de Union Laguna (12-19) 1 – Hernan Perez hit a two-run double in the sixth inning to get Tijuana all the offense it would need for its 21st win of the season. Starter Randy Wynne allowed one run on four hits, striking out five in 6 1/3 innings for the Toros.
