Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Cano Drives In Extra-Innings Winner For Diablos Rojos the Hard Way; Acereros Sweep Doubleheader

Diablos Rojos del Mexico (9-5) 10, Guerreros de Oaxaca (8-6) 9 (10 Innings) – Robinson Cano drove in the game-winner the hard way, getting hit by a pitch in the bottom of the 10th to win a wild contest that saw the Guerreros score four in the top of the extra frame only to give up five and lost the game in the bottom of the inning. The Guerreros intentionally walked Carlos Sepulveda with one out to load the bases for Cano, who worked the count full and then was hit on the back foot by a slider to send the winning run home. Carlos Perez homered twice for the Diablos, and Jon Singleton hit his league-leading 10th homer of the year in just the 14th game of the season.

Sultanes de Monterrey (10-4) 9, Charros de Jalisco (8-6) 2 – The Sultanes got 12 hits and made them count, with Gustavo Nunez going 3-for-3 and drawing a pair of walks on the way to scoring four times as Monterrey won for the 10th time this season. Acereros de Monclova (6-7) 2, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (7-6) 1 (Game 1/Seven Innings) – Ramon Hernandez hit a solo homer in the second, Rodolfo Amador drove in Hernandez with a fourth-inning single to give the Acereros a 2-0 lead, and they held on to win the opener of the doubleheader necessitated by Friday’s rainout.

Acereros de Monclova (7-7) 3, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (7-7) 0 (Game 2/Seven Innings) Alan Trejo singled home Eric Filia in the second and Luis Gonazalez’ two-run single in the third gave the Acereros a 3-0 lead that held as they swept the doubleheader from their division rival on the border. Starter Jake McSteen allowed two hits and a walk over five innings, striking out seven for Monclova.

Caliente de Durango (6-8) 11, Saraperos de Saltillo (3-10) 10 – Enderson Franco’s wild pitch with two outs in the top of the ninth allowed Reynaldo Rodriguez to scoot home with the winning run, capping a two-run rally that sent Saltillo to its 10th loss of the year. Pericos de Puebla (7-7) 9, Leones de Yucatan (7-7) 5 – Estamy Urena and Moises Gomez each hit solo homers in the fifth, and Gomez added a two-run shot in the ninth as the Pericos got past Zona Sur rival Yucatan.
