Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Charros, Algodoneros, Diablos Rojos All Complete Series Sweeps With Sunday Wins

Rieleros de Aguascalientes (39-40) 7, Caliente de Durango (45-37) 6 (10 Innings) – A solo homer by Amilcar Gomez in the top of the 10th got the game-winnign run home for Aguascalientes. Matt McDermott had a solo homer in the eighth for the Rieleros, and Jose Manuel Orozco drove in a pair of runs to keep Aguascalientes a game in front of Union Laguna for the final playoff spot in the Zona Norte.

Dorados de Chihuahua (34-49) 10, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (29-54) 1 – Juan Yepez hit a three-run homer in the fourth and drove in four runs as the Dorados took the series finale from the Tecos.

Diablos Rojos del Mexico (56-27) 8, El Aguila de Veracruz (38-45) 2 – Luis Liberato hit a two-run homer and contributed three RBIs, and Juan Carlos Gamboa and Robinson Cano each hit solo homers as the Diablos took the third game of the set from Veracruz. The win reduces the Diablos’ magic number to clinch the top overall seed in the Zona Sur to two.

Pericos de Puebla (43-38) 1, Tigres de Quintana Roo (42-39) 0 – Cristhian Adames drove in Lorenzo Cedrola with a single in the top of the first, and the Pericos held on to that one-run lead the rest of the game. Fernando Lozano threw five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks, and the bullpen allowed a single walk over the final four innings. With the win, the Pericos and Tigres head to the next series tied for fourth place with Oaxaca, with the three teams tied one game behind the Bravos de Leon for the final home playoff berth in the Zona Sur.

Charros de Jalisco (43-40) 6, Acereros de Monclova (42-42) 1 – Allen Cordoba went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, and Gilberto Jimenez singled home a run in the first and hit a solo homer in the seventh as the Charros topped Monclova to open up a game-and-a-half lead on the Acereros for fourth place. Zac Grotz allowed four hits for the Charros in five scoreless innings, striking out six and walking none.

Guerreros de Oaxaca (44-40) 11, Conspiradores de Queretaro (34-49) 5 – Oaxaca completed the sweep of Queretaro, getting solo homers from Alexi Amarista and Yonathan Daza and two-run homers from Mel Rojas Jr. and Juniel Querecuto.

Saraperos de Saltillo (34-50) 5, Toros de Tijuana (55-27) 4 – Donny Sands drove in Fernando Villegas in the bottom of the ninth to send the fans home happy in Saltillo. Despite the loss, the Toros are a win or a Durango loss away from clinching the top overall seed in the Zona Norte.

Bravos de Leon (45-39) 7, Piratas de Campeche (42-39) 6 – The Piratas scored three runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game at six apiece, but Gabriel Cancel scored when Campeche shortstop Michael Baca made a terrible throw Sandber Pimentel’s grounder in the bottom of the final inning. The win kept Leon in third place with a one-game lead on Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, and Puebla.

Leones de Yucatan (28-53) at Olmecas de Tabasco (49-34) – This game was cancelled due to rain and will not be made up.

Algodoneros de Union Laguna (40-44) 9, Sultanes de Monterrey (44-40) 4 – The Algodoneros won for the seventh time in 10 games to remain one game out of the final playoff spot in the Zona Norte. Nick Torres hit his second homer since returning from the New York Yankees organization, a solo shot in the first, and he and Didi Gregorius each drove in two runs in the win for the Algodoneros.
