Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Diablos Rojos del Mexico Shut Out Tabasco For Second Straight Game; Charros Thump Sultanes 10-0

Saraperos de Saltillo (27-38) 5, Caliente de Durango (34-32) 4 (Game 1/Seven Innings) – A two-run homer by J.P. Martinez in the top of the seventh gave Saltillo a 5-3 lead, and they held on despite a rally by Durango in the bottom of the seventh, stranding the tying run at third when Elier Hernandez struck out swinging to end the game. Fineas Del Bonta-Smith threw four scoreless innings for Saltillo, allowing two hits and a walk, striking out six. Saltillo played as the road game at their home ballpark as this was a rescheduled game from Durango.

Caliente de Durango (35-32) 6, Saraperos de Saltillo (27-39) 5 (Game 2/Eight Innings) – Jose Alvarez hit a solo homer in the top of the eighth and the Caliente held on to split the doubleheader with Saltillo. Estevan Florial added a two-run homer for Durango, while J.P. Martinez and Chris Carter each homered for the Saraperos.

Acereros de Monclova (35-33) 5, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (26-42) 1 – Starter Jackson Goddard threw six innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk, striking out six for the Acereros, and Ryan Hernandez went 3-for-3 with a solo homer as Monclova improved to two games over .500.

Algodoneros de Union Laguna (32-36) 6, Dorados de Chihuahua (25-43) 5 – A five-run fifth inning carried the Algodoneros past Chihuahua, with a two-run double from Isan Diaz starting the scoring in the big inning. Mason Martin later added an RBI triple and scored on a wild pitch as Union Laguna won its fourth straight game.

El Aguila de Veracruz (31-36) 8, Guerreros de Oaxaca (36-32) 3 – Sebastian Elizalde went 3-for-5, scored twice, homered twice, and drove in five runs as El Aguila thumped the Guerreros. Austin Shenton and Carlos Perez each hit solo homers for Veracruz.

Tigres de Quintana Roo (34-32) 19, Conspiradores de Queretaro (30-37) 8 – Troy Viola hit a grand slam in the third, an inning that saw Quintana Roo score seven, as the Tigres mauled the Conspiradores. Phillip Ervin, Diosbel Arias, and Manuel Boscan also homered for the Tigres.

Pericos de Puebla (35-30) at Bravos de Leon (36-31) – This game was suspended due to rain and will be completed on Thursday, July 9.

Piratas de Campeche (32-33) 4, Leones de Yucatan (26-41) 1 – Cal Mitchell drove in the go-ahead run with a double in the top of the eighth, and the Piratas added insurance runs on singles by Abraham Almonte and Armando Alvarez.

Diablos Rojos del Mexico (43-25) 3, Olmecas de Tabasco (40-28) 0 – A two-run single from Rio Ruiz and an RBI single by Robinson Cano, both in the third, gave the Diablos all the offense they’d need as they shut out the Olmecas for the second straight game. Humberto Castellanos allowed two hits over five scoreless innings, walking three and striking out five for the Diablos.

Toros de Tijuana (45-21) at Rieleros de Aguascalientes (30-35) – This game was suspended due to rain and will be completed on Thursday, July 9.

Charros de Jalisco (35-32) 10, Sultanes de Monterrey (36-31) 0 – Johneshwy Fargas went 2-for-4, scored twice and drove in four runs, and Mateo Gil had a pair of RBIs as the Charros walloped the Sultanes in a rematch of last year’s first- and third-round playoff series in the Zona Norte. Alex Mejia went 4-for-5 for Jalisco, scoring twice, and three Charros pitchers combined for a five-hit shutout.
