Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Diablos Rojos Sweep Tabasco With Third Straight Shutout; Toros and Rieleros Series Cancelled

Pericos de Puebla (36-30) 7, Bravos de Leon (36-32) 1 (Game 1/Nine Innings) – Cristhian Adames drove in the game’s first run with a sac fly, then hit a three-run homer in the sixth as the Pericos won the resumption of Wednesday’s suspended game. Samar leyva added an RBI double in the three-run top of the ninth for Puebla, and Miguel Guzman and Juan Kirk each had RBI singles in the final frame.

Pericos de Puebla (37-30) 5, Bravos de Leon (36-33) 3 (Game 2/Seven Innings) – Luis Castro hit a solo homer in the second, Moises Gomez hit a two-run single in the fourth, and David Rodriguez and Castro had RBI singles in the fifth as the Pericos took the second game from Leon. Luis Medina drove in all three runs for the Bravos with a homer in the sixth.

Toros de Tijuana (45-21) at Rieleros de Aguascalientes (30-35) – The resumption of Wednesday’s suspended game and Thursday’s game were both rained out. As the Toros and Rieleros will not face each other again this season, the games are cancelled and will not be made up.

Acereros de Monclova (36-33) 8, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (26-43) 0 – Ryan Hernandez hit a two-run homer in the top of the first, Jose Peraza, Rodolfo Amador, and Aldo Nunez hit RBI doubles for the Acereros, and Bryan Corral had an RBI triple as the Blue Fury shut out the Tecos. Starter A.J. Candelario threw six shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out five for Monclova. The Tecos lost their fifth straight.

Dorados de Chihuahua (26-43) 6, Algodoneros de Union Laguna (32-37) 5 – Juan Yepez had an RBI single and Leobaldo Pina followed him with a two-run homer in the fourth, and Brainer Bonaci hit a three-run homer in the seventh as the Dorados erased a 3-0 deficit and won 6-5.

El Aguila de Veracruz (32-36) 8, Guerreros de Oaxaca (36-33) 7 – Wynton Bernard went 2-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs with a triple in the seventh for Veracruz as they edged the Guerreros in the series finale to record their fourth straight win. Alexi Amarista went 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs in the loss for the Guerreros.

Tigres de Quintana Roo (35-32) 7, Conspiradores de Queretaro (30-38) – Troy Viola’s solo homer in the top of the ninth got the Tigres past the Conspiradores Thursday night. Viola also had a two-run double in the four-run eighth as Quintana Roo came back from a 6-1 deficit to win.

Diablos Rojos del Mexico (44-25) 2, Olmecas de Tabasco (40-29) 0 – The Zona Sur-leading Diablos shut out the second-place Olmecas for the third straight game and won their fourth in a row, getting five shutout innings from starter Justin Courtney and then nearly spotless relief from the bullpen. Courtney allowed four hits and a walk, striking out five, and Nick Vespi and Gerardo Reyes threw perfect innings in relief, while Luis Liberato drove in both runs for the Reds with a single in the fourth.

Caliente de Durango (36-32) 3, Saraperos de Saltillo (27-40) 1 (10 Innings) – Jose Chavez drove in the go-ahead run for Durango with a 10th inning sacrifice fly, and Leonel Valera scooted home on a passed ball to add some insurance. Spencer Turnbull threw six innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks, striking out five for the Caliente.

Sultanes de Monterrey (37-31) 4, Charros de Jalisco (35-33) 1 – Newcomer Daniel Mengden threw six innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk, striking out five in his first start for the Sultanes. Javier Salazar hit a solo homer in the second and Harold Ramirez drove in a run with a single in the fourth for Monterrey.
