Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Diablos Rojos Win Fifth Straight; Toros de Tijuana Now 25 Games Over .500

Bravos de Leon (37-33) 6, Tigres de Quintana Roo (35-33) 1 – Sandber Pimentel hit a solo homer in the sixth and a grand slam in the seventh for his 16th and 17th homers of the year to get Leon the win. Starter Felipe Gonzalez allowed two hits and three walks over five scoreless innings, striking out eight. JJ Matijevic had an RBI single for Quintana Roo.

Rieleros de Aguascalientes (31-35) 6, Dorados de Chihuahua (26-44) 5 – Gabriel Noriega’s solo homer in the sixth gave the Rieleros the eventual winning run, and Noriega was one of four batters for Aguascalientes to have two hits in the win. Maikel Serrano drove in three runs for the Rieleros, two with a single in the fifth.

El Aguila de Veracruz (33-36) 6, Leones de Yucatan (26-42) 2 – Roberto Valenzuela drove in three runs with a fourth-inning double and Austin Shenton hit a solo homer in the same frame as El Aguila took the series opener from Yucatan. Chase Cohen allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings for Veracruz, striking out six and walking none.

Diablos Rojos del Mexico (45-25) 13, Conspiradores de Queretaro (30-39) 11 – Carlos Perez went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, Franklin Barreto went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and four RBIs, and Luis Liberato hit a solo homer as the Diablos won their fifth straight. Henry Urrutia homered and drove in three runs for Queretaro.

Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (26-43) at Caliente de Durango (36-32) – This game was postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Saturday, July 11.

Olmecas de Tabasco (41-29) 2, Guerreros de Oaxaca (36-34) 0 – Finally, the Olmecas came out on the happy side of a shutout, taking the series opener from Oaxaca 2-0 after losing three straight shutouts to the Diablos earlier in the week. Luis Gonzalez had an RBI single and Angelo Castellano homered for Tabasco in the win. Tyler Danish allowed two hits over five shutout innings, walking three and striking out two, and four relievers combined to maintain the shutout, allowing just two walks over the final four innings.

Toros de Tijuana (46-21) 11, Sultanes de Monterrey (37-32) 6 – Wilmer Flores hit his 10th homer of the year and scored three times, Phillip Evans went 4-for-4 and scored three times, and the Toros improved to 25 games over .500 with a series-opening win against the Sultanes. Victor Mendoza hit a two-run homer for the Grey Ghosts in the loss.

Charros de Jalisco (36-33) 13, Algodoneros de Union Laguna (32-38) 7 – Alex Mejia went 2-for-5 and drove in five runs, two with a single in the fifth and three with a double in the sixth, and Kyle Garlick drove in three runs with a pair of singles as Jalisco easily took the series opener on the road in Torreon. Julian Escobedo and Isan Diaz homered in the loss for Union Laguna.

Saraperos de Saltillo (28-40) 5, Acereros de Monclova (36-34) 1 – Zach Mort was deadly on the mound for Saltillo, throwing 6 2/3 innings and allowing a single run on five hits, strikin gout six and walking none. Oscar Campos drove in two runs for the Saraperos with a single in the seventh.
