Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Diablos Rojos Win Seventh Straight, Lead Zona Sur By Four Over Tabasco

Caliente de Durango (38-33) 8, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (27-45) 5 – Ali Castillo went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, driving in Zoilo Almonte twice with singles in the sixth and eighth innings, as the Caliente took the series finale from Dos Laredos to move into second place by half a game over Monclova. Starter Devin Smeltzer allowed two runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out eight and walking none for Durango.

Diablos Rojos del Mexico (47-25) 11, Conspiradores de Queretaro (30-41) 6 – Jon Singleton hit his 21st homer of the year, a two-run dinger in the first, and Juan Carlos Gamboa and Julian Ornelas added solo homers as the Diablos won their seventh straight, sweeping the Conspiradores. Ornelas went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs in the win. Henry Urrutia drove in three runs for Queretaro.

Tigres de Quintana Roo (37-33) 4, Bravos de Leon (37-35) 2 – Calvin Estrada doubled home Troy Viola, Phillip Ervin singled home Cristopher Gastelum, and a bases-loaded walk by Alexis Wilson, all in the seventh inning, got the Tigres past the Bravos on Sunday. Gabriel Cancel hit his league-leading 22nd homer of the season, a solo shot in the first, for the Bravos.

Dorados de Chihuahua (27-45) 18, Rieleros de Aguascalientes (32-36) 13 – The Dorados sent 14 batters to the plate and scored 11 runs in the second inning, then added five more in the fourth and held on to take a wild finale against Aguascalientes. Joel Flores went 4-fro-5 in the No. 9 spot for the Dorados, hitting a three-run homer and driving in five runs, while Andre Lipcius, Jacob Rhinesmith, Juan Yepez, and Brainer Bonaci also homered for Chihuahua in the slugfest. Jomar Reyes hit a two-run homer and drove in four runs for Aguascalientes in the loss.

Toros de Tijuana (48-21) 4, Sultanes de Monterrey (37-34) 2 – An eighth-inning error by Gustavo Nunez on Aderlin Rodriguez’s fielder’s choice at short allowed two runs to score, giving Tijuana the lead for good as they swept Monterrey. Juan Hillman allowed one run on three hits in five innings of work for Tijuana, striking out seven and walking none.

Acereros de Monclova (38-34) 5, Saraperos de Saltillo (28-42) 1 – Jecksson Flores drove in a pair of runs with a double in the bottom of the second and Ramon Hernandez hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third to get the Acereros a win in the series against Saltillo. Monclova’s Jorge Tavarez allowed one run on three hits in six innings, walking one and striking out two.

Olmecas de Tabasco (43-29) 6, Guerreros de Oaxaca (36-36) 2 – The Olmecas won their third straight and dropped Oaxaca back to .500 behind a two-RBI night from Oscar Gonzalez, whose third inning single scored Luis Gonzalez and Angelo Castellano. Alan Espinoza added a solo homer for Tabasco in the third, and Austin Warner threw five shutout innings, allowing three hits, three walks, and striking out two.

Leones de Yucatan (27-43) 7, El Aguila de Veracruz (34-37) 5 – Ronnie Williams allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks in five innings, striking out five as the Leones took the final game of the series from Veracruz. Addison Russell went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, clubbing a two-run double in the fifth and an RBI single in the ninth for Yucatan.

Piratas de Campeche (35-33) 6, Pericos de Puebla (37-33) 4 – The Piratas won their fifth straight, sweeping Puebla behind a 4-for-5 night from Cal Mitchell, who had a solo homer and an RBI single, and a three-run homer from Fernando Flores.

Charros de Jalisco (37-34) 6, Algodoneros de Union Laguna (33-39) 3 – A series of three two-out RBI singles in the third, one each by Johneshwy Fargas, Seby Zavala, and Jeremy Arocho, capped a four-run third innings as the Charros took the series finale. Luis Ivan Rodriguez allowed three runs on six hits over five innings, striking out three and walking none for the Charros.
