Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Diablos Rojos Win Sixth Straight Behind Trevor Bauer’s Solid Five Innings

Piratas de Campeche (33-33) 7, Pericos de Puebla (37-31) 5 (Game 1/Seven Innings) – Michael De La Cruz and Samar Leyva each homered as the Pericos scored five in the top of the fourth to take a 5-2 lead, but Campeche scored five of their own in the bottom of the fifth, getting a grand slam from Abraham Almonte to take back the lead and win the first game of the doubleheader.

Piratas de Campeche (34-33) 4, Pericos de Puebla (37-32) 3 (Game 2/10 Innings) – Jesse Castillo drove in Cal Mitchell with a double in the bottom of the 10th to get the Piratas back above .500 and a sweep of the doubleheader. He drew a bases-loaded walk in the third to earn an RBI and also got a run home with a first-inning ground out. Lorenzo Cedrola and Cristhian Adames each hit solo homers for Puebla.

Diablos Rojos del Mexico (46-25) 16, Conspiradores de Queretaro (30-40) 6 – Trevor Bauer allowed three runs on four hits, striking out six over five innings in his second start for the Diablos before an hour and seven minute rain delay ended his evening early. The Diablos scored six in the second, then came out of the rain delay and scored nine in the bottom of the fifth to easily take the first game of the doubleheader and improve to 21 games over .500. Luis Liberato and Julian Ornelas each drove in three runs for the Reds, and Carlos Perez, Rio Ruiz, and Ramon Flores each drove in two.

Tigres de Quintana Roo (36-33) 3, Bravos de Leon (37-34) 2 – A RBI single by Troy Viola in the bottom of the ninth got the Tigres on the board, and a two-run single by Phillip Ervin sent the fans in Cancun home happy as Quintana Roo scored all their runs in the final frame to take the middle game from the Bravos. Jeff Lindgren was stellar as the starter for the Bravos, allowing one hit and six walks over six scoreless innings, striking out two.

Toros de Tijuana (47-21) 3, Sultanes de Monterrey (37-33) 1 – Jonathan Guzman singled home Isaac Rodriguez in the fifth for the Toros and grounded out to first in the seventh to score Phillip Evans as the Toros won for the seventh time in the last 10 games. Noah Skirrow allowed allowed four hits in 5 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out three and walking none for Tijuana. Brett de Geus earned his 20th save of the year for the Toros.

Caliente de Durango (37-32) 9, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (26-44) 4 (Game 1/Seven Innings) – Leonel Valera and Jose Urena each drove in two runs for Durango, with Valera’s two-run single in the fifth capping a five-run inning to get the Caliente past the Tecos in the first game of the doubleheader.

Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (27-44) 10, Caliente de Durango (37-33) 3 (Game 2/Seven Innings) – Jonathan Arauz and Jose Rodriguez each homered for the Tecos, and Ali Castillo went 3-for-4 and scored three times as the Tecos got a split of the doubleheader from Durango. Estevan Florial hit his 10th homer of the year for Durango.

Rieleros de Aguascalientes (32-35) 6, Dorados de Chihuahua (26-45) 4 (11 Innings) – Aaron Antonini’s sacrifice fly in the top of the 11th got two runs home for the Rieleros, who held on for their 32nd win of the year and fourth in a row. All four Aguascalientes runs in the first nine innings came via the long ball, with Jose Orozco hitting a pair of solo homers and Matthew Batten and Jose Rondon each hitting a solo homer.

El Aguila de Veracruz (34-36) 7, Leones de Yucatan (26-43) 3 – Sebastian Elizalde went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, hitting a solo homer in the first as El Aguila won to remain in the hunt for a playoff spot. Austin Shenton also hit a solo homer for Veracruz.

Algodoneros de Union Laguna (33-38) 8, Charros de Jalisco (36-34) 0 – Starter Tayler Scott allowed just two hits over five innings for the Algodoneros, and four relievers combined to allow two more hits over the final four innings as Union Laguna breezed by the Charros. Edward Olivares homered in the second and drove in three runs, and Mason Martin hit his 17th homer of the season in the sixth.

Olmecas de Tabasco (42-29) 2, Guerreros de Oaxaca (36-35) 1 – Domingo Leyba tied the game for Tabasco with an RBI single in the sixth, and Yamaico Navarro won the game for the Olmecas with an RBI single that scored Marco Hernandez in the bottom of the ninth. It was the fifth straight loss for Oaxaca, which is now tied for the sixth and final playoff spot with Campeche, 10 games behind the first-place Diablos.

Acereros de Monclova (37-34) 6, Saraperos de Saltillo (28-41) 1 – Ramon Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a triple and a solo homer, and Rodolfo Amador also hit a solo homer as the Acereros easily got past Saltillo. New arrival Andretty Cordero drove in a run with an RBI single in the first for Monclova in the first.
