Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Puebla’s Ninth Inning Rally Catches Queretaro; Dorados Shut Out Monclova

Olmecas de Tabasco (1-3) 7, El Aguila de Veracruz (2-2) 0 – Evan Grills threw six shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk, recording six strikeouts, and the Olmecas’ bullpen kept the shutout intact over the final three innings. Agustin Ruiz hit a two-run homer in the second, Alan Espinoza hit a solo shot in the fifth, Carlos Arellano hit a two-run shot in the seventh, and Domingo Leyba hit a solo homer in the eighth for Tabasco.

Pericos de Puebla (1-3) 12, Conspiradores de Queretaro (1-3) – Trailing 11-9, Samar Leyva hit a bases-loaded triple to cap a four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth that gave the Pericos their first win of the season. Brayan Quintero and Fabricio Macias scored cleanly, but Michael de la Cruz was initially called out at the plate. After he signalled to the dugout for a review, the umpires ruled him safe after looking at the video.

Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (2-2) 4, Charros de Jalisco (1-3) 2 – Tyler Ivey threw five shutout innings for the Tecos, allowing three hits and striking out six, and Dos Laredos capitalized on their chances, scoring four runs on seven hits to hand the Charros their third loss in four games. Cade Gotta and Jordan Diaz each had two hits for Dos Laredos.

Saraperos de Saltillo (1-2) 9, Rieleros de Aguascalientes (2-2) 4 – Cole Roederer went 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs, two walks, and two runs scored, and Brandon Villareal had three hits and scored twice as Saltillo claimed its first win of the year.

Leones de Yucatan (1-3) 6, Diablos Rojos del Mexico (2-2) 4 – Edwin Rios went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, a run scored, and a walk, and Reivaj Garcia went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored as the Leones earned their first win of the year against their Zona Sur rival. The Yucatan bullpen threw four scoreless innings, allowing three hits, aith former Major Leaguer Anthony Gose striking out four over 1 2/3 innings.

Sultanes de Monterrey (4-0) 5, Caliente de Durango (2-2) 4 – Wilson Garcia’s two-run homer in the eighth got Monterrey within a run, and a two-run double by Javier Salazar in the bottom of the ninth scored Johan Lopez and Gustavo Nunez to give the Sultanes their fourth win of the season. Monterrey’s pitchers held Durango to four hits in the game.

Algodoneros de Union Laguna (1-4) 3, Toros de Tijuana (3-1) 2 – Emmanuel Rivera went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs as Union Laguna got its first win of the season. Starter Touki Toussaint threw five innings, allowing one run on four hits, walking one and striking out three.

Bravos de Leon (4-0) 15, Guerreros de Oaxaca (3-1) 3 – The Bravos exploded for seven runs in the first and never looked back, scoring all 15 runs in the first five innings of the game. Jermaine Palacios hit a grand slam in the first, Sandber Pimentel hit a solo homer in the third, Connor Panas hit a solo shot in the third, and Jimmy Kerrigan hit a three-run homer in the fifth for Leon.

Piratas de Campeche (2-2) 11, Tigres de Quintana Roo (3-1) 0 – The Piratas got 12 hits and made 11 of them count as they handed Quintana Roo its first loss of the season. Andrew Stevenson went 3-for-4, scored three times and drove in two runs, hitting a solo homer for Campeche in the win.

Dorados de Chihuahua (2-2) 5, Acereros de Monclova (2-2) 0 – Drew Parrish allowed two hits and walked none, striking out two over six shutout innings, and the bullpen allowed just two more baserunners as the Dorados shut out the Acereros to get back to .500 on the young season. Carlos Munoz went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBIs for Chihuahua.
