Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Saturday Doubleheader For Diablos, Piratas; Almeida Drives In Five With Two Homers For Tabasco

Diablos Rojos Will Play Saturday Doubleheader – With Mexico facing England at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on Sunday night, the Diablos Rojos have moved Sunday’s series finale against the Piratas de Campeche to Saturday. The two teams will play a single-admission doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., with 2020 National League Cy Young Award winner Trevor Bauer pitching for the Diablos in the first game.

Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (26-38) 7, Sultanes de Monterrey (33-30) 0 (Game 1/Seven Innings) – A pair of RBI doubles and a trio of RBI singles, all in the bottom of the first inning, got seven runs home in the opening frame for the Tecos. The Binationals cruised behind five shutout innings from starter Daniel Mengden, who allowed two hits, a walk, and struck out four.

Sultanes de Monterrey (34-30) 10, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (26-39) 9 (Game 2/Seven Innings) – The Sultanes took a 10-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh and held on despite a five-run Tecos rally, with Eduardo Luna striking out with runners on second and third to end the game. Zoilo Almonte hit his 20th homer of the year, a sixth-inning solo blast, for Dos Laredos.

Piratas de Campeche (29-31) 8, Diablos Rojos del Mexico (40-24) 5 – Hours after Trevor Bauer took questions from the media, the Diablos dropped the series opener to Campeche after coughing up a 4-0 lead. A pair of bases-loaded walks started off a seven-run top of the fourth for Campeche, which also got RBI singles from Christian Ibarra and Connor Hollis, an RBI double from Cal Mitchell, and a sac fly from Nick Kahle in the big inning. Franklin Barreto hit his 13th homer of the year, a solo shot in the second off Bobby Milacki, for the Diablos.

Pericos de Puebla (34-28) 3, Guerreros de Oaxaca (34-30) 2 (13 Innings) – David Rodriguez doubled home Cristhian Adames in the top of the 13th, four innings after Rodriguez got the tying run home with a sac fly to give the Pericos the win. Sergio Alcantara drove in Puebla’s other run with a double in the second.

Bravos de Leon (35-29) 6, El Aguila de Veracruz (28-35) 4 – Gaige Howard and Esteban Quiroz each had a pair of RBIs as Leon got past Veracruz. Balbino Fuenmayor chipped in a solo homer, his seventh of the year, in his first game with the Bravos since coming over from Monclova.

Olmecas de Tabasco (39-25) 10, Conspiradores de Queretaro (29-34) 9 – Seth Beer’s two-run homer in the top of the ninth, his 15th of the year, got the Olmecas their 39th win of the year as they gained a game on the Zona Sur-leading Diablos Rojos del Mexico. Beer went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, hitting a two-run single in the first. Antonio Almeida hit a pair of dingers for the Olmecas, his first two of the year, driving in five runs with two swings of the bat.

Saraperos de Saltillo (25-36) 18, Algodoneros de Union Laguna (28-36) 11 – Ramon Rios went 2-for-5 with a double, a homer, and five RBIs as the Saraperos won a slugfest against Union Laguna despite giving up five homers. Former New York Met Luis Guillorme had three RBIs

Leones de Yucatan (24-38) 6, Tigres de Quintana Roo (31-31) 2 – Henry Ramos went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, a run scored and three RBIs as the Leones won their second straight. Brandon Brennan allowed two runs on six hits in six innings of work for Yucatan, walking two and striking out four.

Charros de Jalisco (34-29) 10, Dorados de Chihuahua (23-41) 5 – Starter Kurt Heyer allowed two runs on six hits over six innings, striking out three and walking one as the Charros doubled up the Dorados. Kyle Garlick and Alex Mejia each hit two-run homers for Jalisco, and Seby Zavala hit a solo homer to get the Charros on the board in the first.

Acereros de Monclova (32-32) 6, Rieleros de Aguascalientes (28-34) 1 – New arrival Ryan Hernandez hit his first homer for the Blue Fury, a solo shot in the sixth, and Jose Peraza drove in a pair of runs with a two-out single in the seventh as the Acereros got back to .500. Starter Jake McSteen threw six innings, allowing a single run on five hits, walking one and striking out 10.

Caliente de Durango (34-28) 3, Toros de Tijuana (43-20) 2 (10 Innings) – Elier Hernandez hit his 10th homer of the year in the top of the 10th to get Durango a win against the hottest team in the LMB. Franchy Cordero’s two-run homer in the first accounted for all of Tijuana’s offense.
