Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Sultanes de Monterrey Romp 16-0 To Sweep Union Laguna; Drake Homers Twice For Leones In Loss

Guerreros de Oaxaca (3-0) 8, Pericos de Puebla (0-3) – Three RBI singles – one from Juniel Querecuto, one from Juan Santana, and one from Aristedes Aquino – and a wild pitch allowed the Guerreros to score four in the top of the ninth. A solo homer from Moises Gomez and an RBI single by Herlis Rodriguez kept the Pericos in the game, but closer Joey Krehbiel was able to finish out the final frame without further damage for Oaxaca.

Caliente de Durango (2-1) 6, Dorados de Chihuahua (1-2) 2 – Starter Elian Leyva threw four innings, allowings one run on three hits and a walk, striking out two, and the Caliente got three long balls as they took the series from Chihuahua. Andre Lipcius hit a solo homer in the fourth, Reynaldo Rodriguez hit a two-run shot in the sixth, and Gabriel Noriega hit a solo homer in the eighth for Durango. Rusber Estrada went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Chihuahua.

Toros de Tijuana at Saraperos de Saltillo – This game was postponed due to rain.

Acereros de Monclova (2-1) 4, Charros de Jalisco (1-2) 3 – Rodolfo Amador’s single in the top of the ninth got Jose Peraza home with the game-winner and the Acereros took the first series of the year. Charros starter Luis Payan allowed three unearned runs on seven hits over five innings, while Acereros opener Jackson Goddard allowed three runs over five innings and struck out six. Willie Calhoun hit a solo homer for Jalisco.

Bravos de Leon (3-0) 4, Leones de Yucatan (0-3) 3 – Jimmy Kerrigan went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a walk as Leon swept the Leones, and Jeff Lindgren threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings for the Bravos, striking out five and walking none. Yadir Drake drove in all three Yucatan runs, hitting a two-run homer in the seventh and a solo homer in the ninth.

Rieleros de Aguascalientes (2-1) 11, Tecolotes de Los Dos Laredos (1-2) 10 – A wild pitch by Ryan Hendrix in the bottom of the ninth allowed Angel Reyes to score and touched off a three-run Rieleros rally that won the game. After loading the bases, Hendrix hit Angel Erro to send Jose Rondon home to tie the game and end Hendrix night. But his replacement, Rio Gomez, allowed a game-ending single to Maikel Serrano that scored Angel Camacho.

Tigres de Quintana Roo (3-0) 4, Olmecas de Tabasco (0-3) 2 – Miles Simington went 3-for-5 with a double, a solo homer, scored twice, and robbed former first round MLB draft pick Seth Beer of a homer as Quintana Roo swept Tabasco.

El Aguila de Veracruz (2-1) 9, Conspiradores de Queretaro (1-2) 8 (13 Innings) – A ghost runner would likely have ended this game a few innings earlier, but as the league clarified yesterday, they don’t use that rule. Jackson Loftin’s two-out single in the bottom of the 13th scored Kristian Delgado with the game-winner for El Aguila, who got homers from Aderlin Rodriguez, Yurisbel Gracial, Alan Hanson, and Rainel Rosario.

Sultanes de Monterrey (3-0) 16, Algodoneros de Union Laguna (0-3) 0 – Justus Sheffield threw five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks, and the Algodoneros only mustered three base runners after he left. Socrates Brito, Josh Lester, Gustavo Nunez, and Omar Narvaez all homered for Monterrey, which got out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first and never looked back.
