Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Toros Win Fourth Straight to Sweep Dos Laredos; Diablos Split Double Dip With Tabasco

Diablos Rojos del Mexico (28-16) 4, Olmecas de Tabasco (26-16) 0 (Seven Innings) – Jon Singleton hit a two-run homer, Luis Liberato added a solo shot, both of which happened before Saturday’s suspension of play, and Robinson Cano drove in a run with a ground-out to round out the scoring for the Diablos. Four Mexico relievers combined to throw four perfect innings of relief to finish out the shortened shutout.

Olmecas de Tabasco (27-18) 8, Diablos Rojos del Mexico (28-17) 5 (Seven Innings) – Agustin Ruiz hit a three-run triple in the four-run fifth inning as Tabasco took the second game of the doubleheader. Robinson Cano hit a two-run homer for the Diablos in the loss.

Conspiradores de Queretaro (20-25) 8, Tigres de Quintana Roo (19-24) 2 – Kelvin Gutierrez hit a three-run homer in the eighth to give Queretaro a 5-2 lead, and then the Conspiradores added three more in the ninth, two on a two-run double by Rangel Ravelo. Calvin Estrada hit a solo homer for the Tigres in the loss.

Acereros de Monclova (25-20) 2, Sultanes de Monterrey (25-19) 1 (10 Innings) – Jacob Rhinesmith’s solo homer in the 10th was the difference, giving Monclova its 25th win of the year. Acereros starter Wilmer Rios allowed six hits and walked none over six shutout innings, striking out four. The Sultanes managed just one run despite collecting 10 hits and went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.

Saraperos de Saltillo (14-28) 5, Dorados de Chihuahua (17-28) 4 (10 Innings) – With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th, Chihuahua reliever Braden Webb threw his 3-0 pitch to Danny Ortiz just a bit outside, sending it to the backstop and allowing the winning run to scamper home for Saltillo. An inning earlier, with one out in the bottom of the ninth, Fernando Villegas tied the game for the Saraperos with a two-run homer. Andre Lipcius went 2-for-4 and had two RBIs for Chihuahua.

El Aguila de Veracruz (19-24) 7, Guerreros de Oaxaca (25-19) 1 (Seven Innings) – Cesar Izturis Jr. went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs with a pair of RBI singles, and Roberto Valenzuela went 3-for-5 and scored three times as El Aguila won in the completion of the suspended game.

El Aguila de Veracruz (20-24) 5, Guerreros de Oaxaca (25-20) 3 (Seven Innings) – Austin Shenton’s fifth-inning double with the bases loaded scored three for Veracruz, and Shenton gave El Aguila an insurance run with a sac fly in the seventh. Starter Cristopher Molina allowed two runs over five innings, allowing eight hits and a walk, striking out two.

Pericos de Puebla (24-21) 7, Bravos de Leon (26-19) 3 – Lorenzo Cedrola started a four run-rally in the fifth with a two-run single, Cristhian Adames drove in a run with a ground out, and Luis Castro capped the rally with a triple as the Pericos took the series finale from Leon. Magneuris Sierra and Esteban Quiroz homered for the Bravos in the loss.

Rieleros de Aguascalientes (22-22) 3, Charros de Jalisco (27-18) 2 – Amilcar Gomez singled on a line drive to center in the bottom of the ninth to score Gabriel Lino and get the Rieleros back to .500. Starter Greg Duncan allowed two runs on two hits over eight innings, walking one and striking out six for the Rieleros. Jose Rondon and Matt McDermott each had RBI singles for Aguascalientes.

Piratas de Campeche (18-24) 8, Leones de Yucatan (15-30) 7 – Jose Gaitan’s ground out to first in the top of the ninth was enough to get Henry Ramos home from third, getting the Leones within a run, but it wasn’t enough. The loss was the fifth straight for Yucatan, which is 4 1/2 games behind Campeche in last place in the Zona Sur. Gaitan also had a solo homer earlier in the game. The Leones gave the game away in teh bottom of the eighth, allowing the Piratas to score four runs and three with two outs, including a bases-loaded walk to Emmanuel Avila and a single by Connor Hollis.

Algodoneros de Union Laguna (20-25) 5, Caliente de Durango (21-23) 4 – Albert Lara tied the game with a double in the bottom of the ninth, and three batters later, Didi Gregorius drew a bases-loaded walk to send Lara home with the game-ending run for the Algodoneros, who won their fifth straight, moving them into a tie for seventh with Dos Laredos. Lara went 2-for-5, scored twice, and had a double and a solo homer for Union Laguna in the win.

Toros de Tijuana (31-13) 3, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (20-25) 0 – For the second time in the series, the Toros held the Toros to just two hits and shut them out, sweeping the series and winning their fourth straight. Starter Noah Skirrow allowed one hit and one walk in six shutout innings, striking out nine Tecos, and the bullpen maintained the shutout. Junior Lake’s three-run homer in the third provided all of Tijuana’s offense.
