The Liga Monumental de Béisbol, a new professional baseball summer league based in Venezuela, will kick things off with an exhibition game between the Leones de Monumental and Navegantes de Caracas.
The game will be played on April 11 at Estadio Monumental Simón Bolívar in Caracas, the home stadium of the LVBP’s Leones del Caracas. The LVBP is a winter league, so this offers fans in Venezuela an opportunity to watch professional baseball during the summer.
Major League Baseball legends David Ortiz, Magglio Ordonez, and Carlos Baerga are expected to be playing in the game, per a post from the league’s Instagram page.
Other notable participants for the Leones include Asdrubal Cabrera, Jose Reyes, and Omar Vizquel. The Navegantes’ roster will feature Endy Chavez, Robinson Cano, and Rougned Odor, among many other former Major League All-Stars and veterans.
A report from La Iguana TV indicates that the league plans to have eight total teams, and they will introduce unique rules for fan entertainment, similar to the Savannah Bananas.
