LMB: Aderlin Rodriguez Takes Home Run Lead With Four Dinger Weekend

 Leif Skodnick - World Baseball Network  |    May 19th, 2025 11:55am EDT

Aderlin Rodriguez is absolutely mauling opposing pitching.

The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native leads the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol with 12 homers this season, and clubbed

Rodriguez clubbed three homers for the Bravos de Leon in the clubs’ 7-6 loss to the Diablos Rojos del Mexico at home on Friday night. In the third, Rodriguez launched a three-run shot off Efrain Contreras to put the Bravos ahead 3-1.

In the seventh, with the Bravos trailing 7-4, Rodriguez homered again, this time hitting a solo homer to left off Gerardo Reyes. He capped the big evening with a solo homer that drew the Bravos within one in the bottom of the ninth, but Leon was unable to complete the comeback. In all, Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with three homers, three runs scored, and five RBIs in the game.

Rodriguez added another solo homer in Saturday’s 14-12 loss to the Diablos, giving him the outright league lead. Former Washington Nationals outfielder Yadiel Hernandez, now with the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos, is nipping at Rodriguez’ heels with 11 homers, and Nicholas Torres of the Algodoneros de Union Laguna is third with 10.

Despite Rodriguez’ display of power, the Bravos are 11-16 this season, and are already on their second manager of the year, with former American League MVP Miguel Tejada having taken over the club earlier this month after they started the year 6-9 under Matias Carrillo.

Japhet Amador Hits 250th LMB Homer – Japhet Amador hit his 250th LMB homer on Sunday with a sixth-inning solo shot in the Diablos Rojos del Mexico’s 10-6 win at Leon. It was his second homer of the year, and his 228th as a member of the Diablos Rojos.

Amador began his career with the Diablos Rojos in 2010, hitting his first home run for the Reds on March 21 against the Acereros de Monclova at Foro Sol, the former home of the Diablos. The 2015 campaign was his best season in the LMB, when he hit 41 home runs.

He ranks 18th all-time in LMB homers, and needs four more to pass Edgar Quintero and Jose Luis Sandoval, who rank 16th with 253 homers each. Nelson Barrera is the all-time LMB home run king with 455.

You’re Fired – Another axe has fallen, this time in Quintana Roo, where C.J. Retherford has been fired after the Tigres got out to league-worst 8-19 start in his second season. In 2024, Retherford’s first season as a manager at any level, the Tigres went 25-64 and finished last in the Zona Sur, 45 1/2 games behind the Diablos Rojos del Mexico.

Gregg Zaun has been named interim manager for the Tigres, who host the second-place Pericos de Puebla Tuesday through Thursday and then travel to Mexico City to face the first-place Diablos Rojos over the weekend.

You’re Hired – Sergio Omar Gastelum has taken over as the manager of the Saraperos de Saltillo, the third season in a row where the Saraperos have changed managers during the season. Gastelum, who won the 2023 Serie del Rey as manager of the Pericos de Puebla, replaces long-time LMB manager Enrique “Che” Reyes, who got the Saraperos off to a sluggish start.

That’s… Different – Wedneday’s game between the Tigres de Quintana Roo and Conspiradores de Queretaro was suspended in the sixth inning after high winds dislodged the tarp that forms the batter’s eye in center field. The Conspiradores led 6-4 when the game was suspended in the top of the sixth with runners on first and second with two outs. The suspended game was completed on Thursday, with Queretaro winning 9-4.

Where to Watch – All LMB games are streamed live for a fee on LMB.tv.
