A ninth-inning sacrifice fly by Julian Escobedo scored Brian O’Grady, giving the Algodoneros de Union Laguna a 3-2 lead that would hold up in game five of the second round series, cutting the Charros de Jalisco’s lead to three-games-to-two.
Johneshwy Fargas had a pair of solo homers for Jalisco, hitting one in the first and one in the seventh for both of the Charros’ runs.
Mark Payton’s two-run homer in the top of the eighth for Union Laguna scored Escobedo and tied the game at two apiece.
Jalisco starter Zac Grotz allowed one hit and three walks over five scoreless innings, striking out three.
The series returns to Torreon, the home city of the Algodoneros, for game six on Friday at 9:30 p.m. EDT, with Luis Ivan Rodriguez starting for the Charros against Ricardo Sanchez for the Algodoneros.
Serie Campeonato Starts Saturday In the South – The Zona Sur Serie Campeonato between the Diablos Rojos del Mexico and the winner of the series between Campeche and Oaxaca will begin Saturday, August 30, in Mexico City regardless of when the second round series ends. A potential game seven between the Piratas and Guerreros would be played Friday, August 29.
In the Zona Norte, the Serie Campeonato will begin on August 30 if the Charros de Jalisco win game six, or on Sunday, August 31 if the series is decided in seven games.
